While this is on the surface a largely ludicrous statment. I presume you mean when refining a players skill, which i would honestly agree with you.

The thing is though is that dowell has the skill there. It's his work rate that needs improving and the championship is ideal for that.
This is a myth. If it does then how is he fundamentally different than other players in the Everton team outside Gueye?

Spot on. The risk of any loan is what happens if things get tight. Does the manager get conservative and put a bunch of 30 year old groks in there to avoid getting beat?

Warburton has a good reputation, and I'm hopeful, but it IS a risk. Those who are hammering on some of us who are questioning this are too easy to say loans are a great thing. Sometimes they are and sometimes they aren't. Coleman's was great, Barkley's 2 were most definitely not.

...it's exactly that JD. He's playing in a very competitive league where points are at a premium. The manager will pick players he thinks will get him the most points. That's what was impressive with Lookman, he was a regular starter in the lower leagues at a very young age and as a flair player.

What are you on about? Work rate isnt just about running around like a headless chicken. Its about being involved in play, making yourself avaliable for a pass, draging a defender away to make space or tracking back to help defend.

Actually affecting the game. How many times have you seen rooney, morgs hell even barry play and gone "oh, is he still on the pitch?". Thats work rate, thats affecting a game. Might not be playing out of there socks, might not even be playing well but they are constantly involved in the game.

Everytime ive seen dowell play i always forget he's on the pitch. He fades out of games far to much for my liking and I believe that is why he has been sent out to the championship.

Watched a very interesting documentary on this last night. Touches on whether it's better to be in academy or work your way up the leagues

..cheers, I'll have a look but I don't think there's a definitive route as it all depends on the individual. Vardy is blessed with real pace but he has attitude where he's not scared of a game of football and goes to war with any defender. Some academy players drop down a step and come back, like Michael Keane and Shane Duffy. It's a difficult one but there is a lot of fortune involved, being in the right place at the right time, particularly with a Manager who rates you.

Do you have any comparative stats for Dowell in the games he's played with the first team so I can appreciate the 'needs more work rate' argument?

It sounds like a article of faith to me rather than reality.

Definitely Vardy's pace would standout in any league. It really is a crapshoot.

I think @davek has got a point here tbf. Dowell isn't going to learn anything playing against players who are nowhere near his level of talent. In fact, very few players in the Prem are as naturally gifted as Dowell.

Dowell would add exactly what Sigurdsson adds, not counting the experience. In fact, probably more. He can take set pieces because of his technical ability, but in my opinion he has probably a better X-factor player than Iceland. Obviously he would have to be eased into the team, but Dowell should have been in the first team squad.

It's a pathetic decision not to retain him and cuts our nose off to spite our face.
