He was playing left wing back in the euros tbf mate, in a set up that was unbalanced all over the pitch

It's very far from ideal like, but for me he would unquestionably be the best full back at the club. Unlike Ashley Young who is a 39 year old winger covering at either fullback slot!

Was poor last season but he had some personal issues going on by all accounts.

Would easily be our best right back - which is a very low bar. Would really be an admission that the contract for Young was a mistake.
I don’t see this happening anyway.

Also he played a lot of games with them being in the champions league I think he'll be alright he wasn't terrible overall just had rough patches I'd much rather have him then young

Yep this. Was slagging him off last season and he's clearly in decline but he'd be far and away our best right back. I know it isn't a very high bar.

To be fair a back 4 of Mykolenko, Branthwaite, Tarkowski & Trippier wouldn't look be entirely awful & we'd be a better threat on set pieces with Trippiers set piece skills. In truth anything that gets Young out of the team is a must. Then loan Dixon & Patterson out to contribute to his wages....

What I will say is that we are crying out for a genuine set piece expert and there aren’t many of them available. I’m very dubious about this as our final domestic loan with what might be available from Chelsea, but that might swing it towards a positive.
