Koeman: "Barkley looking for a new challenge"

We don't know what's gone on behind the scenes.

But Barkley has been offered a contract to stay at Everton.

He has turned it down.

That's it really.

He'll be welcome back like a king one day anyway, like the rest of the academy lads who scarpered at the first opportunity.

3 issues. Barkley does not think winning a trophy for his boyhood club is the best challenge. Furthermore, he does not seem to want competition for his place in the team. Besides that, there isn't anyone telling him lie and deluding him anymore but it seems he barely like music to his ears.

Ones that we actually wouldn't have minded staying. Sorry, Tony.

I think it's down to a disagreement with Koeman and as far as I'm concerned, that's fine. Don't tow the line or listen to the manager then you are out. Koeman knows what he wants and pandering to Ross ain't his bag. I think it's good that he'll be gone, a couple of runs and a worldly goal a season isn't what we need to move forward. I don't think he will be a player that will be missed or that we are gutted we lost when he comes back to play against us either to be honest.

Why all the hate to Barkley? Ffs get a grip lads. He wants to move maybe because he's sick of getting booed by his so called supporters but more to the point he obviously doesn't like his manager. In any workplace if you don't your manager or how your being managed you look elsewhere that is what he is doing. Don't get the hope he flops or hope his career goes downhill. I hope he goes on to do very well. Good luck Ross. Koeman has handled this situation badly and before Xmas took every opportunity to publicly lay in to Ross. Don't remember him doing that with any other player. He needs to shoulder some responsibility for this situation.

As an Everton fan, why would you even care?

Him doing well at another club could be to the detriment of ours.

Don't get this kind of do gooder phoney sentiment personally.

...just as most of us thought. Hoping folk stop blaming Koeman, hope folk stop blaming Everton. These things happen, it's not necessarily anybody's fault, including Ross Barkley's. I actually think we'll be better off with different player in there but that's all about opinion.
I agree Eggs, don't blame anyone for his decision to leave, I do think he needs to challenge himself elsewhere as do most other top pro footballers. It doesn't always work staying at the one club from boyhood and the players who actually do thast are few and far between. Good luck to him, Ihope he finds a good club and has a successful career, but now we move on.

There's one.

It's as if people think other fans would stand up and applaud each time he makes a stupid decision.
There absolute wools mate take no notice of them. They have no idea what kind of affinity a local lad should have with his club regardless of boos.

@tommye you promised!

gutted here. absolutely gutted.

not a big fan of Koemans reign so far I have to say

I'll be waiting on info from the other side of the argument though before taking the managers comments as being the whole story

Mate, he was offered a deal.

All Koeman has actually said is he rejected our offer and wants a new challenge.

There was no vitriol. It's just stating fact.

As @GrandOldTeam says, this is on Ross. It's his call, which he has every right to make.

We're a club hugely on the up. We play good, winning football again (despite a blip last winter) and have done everything realistically possible to show our intent so far.

I know you don't like Koeman, but Ross hasn't been forced out. The deal on the table was a good one. A very good one. I'm confident in that information. If the player doesn't want to be here, then like Lukaku, we'll take the money thank you very much.

Ross, as good as he was at points and could still be, hasn't brought us any success. Just like Lukaku, or Stones, or Del.

Good players, but didn't - for whatever reasons - want to be here. Sound, in a bit then.

The one thing I do think the club should have done better is offer him a new deal sooner. Probably this time last year. The club was a bit of a mess and that should have been sorted out.

Then again, he may well have turned it down, just like the one that was ultimately offered six-eight months later.
