Koeman: "Barkley looking for a new challenge"

Who else was there to replace him with? We have particularly targeted that position of the pitch for new signings. Why?

Because - as Koeman has said - we knew he wasn't signing.

I've - in fairness - slated Ross a bit for not giving a clear indication to the club. It appears, though, that he did at least let the manager know 'by the end of the season'.

So we knew he wasn't signing and thus had no choice but to target that position.

Can we automatically threadban anyone who suggests anything like "it's because of the fans lad, they're too harsh on him mate".
There were some who genuinely believed Rom wanted gone because we didn't love him enough. It'll be the same for Ross mate, they're on the way.

I just hope Tom Davies secretly supports Liverpool.

Every Evertonian prospect that has came through has left: Jeffers, Rooney, Rodwell and now Barkley!

I sadly expect Barkely to join the Jeffers and Rodwell team, as opposed to the Rooney team, in terms of moving on for greater things.

As I've said in other threads over the months, every other player leaving I understood.

Gosling, Lescott, Rooney, Arteta etc.

With Barkley, I just think it's bonkers.

He genuinely wants Champions League football, and prompted further by not having his backside kissed by Koeman.

Still, over the years we've all constantly bemoaned a bottling mentality. Ross Barkley epitomised that.

For all the raw ability, and despite the romantic "local academy lad" - Barkley isn't good enough to be an integral part in Everton's team to reach the level above us.

Shift him out, he hasn't got the will, or the fight to improve his game and compete for his place which he has had guaranteed for years. Bring Sigurdsson in, twice the player.

couldn't agree more

Why all the hate to Barkley? Ffs get a grip lads. He wants to move maybe because he's sick of getting booed by his so called supporters but more to the point he obviously doesn't like his manager. In any workplace if you don't your manager or how your being managed you look elsewhere that is what he is doing. Don't get the hope he flops or hope his career goes downhill. I hope he goes on to do very well. Good luck Ross. Koeman has handled this situation badly and before Xmas took every opportunity to publicly lay in to Ross. Don't remember him doing that with any other player. He needs to shoulder some responsibility for this situation.

Hasn't he realised yet that he hasn't done enough for a CL club to pull out all the stops to sign him? He's pinning his hopes on Spurs paying enough but that's looking less likely by the day.

The big boys aren't going after him like they were for Rom.

Or maybe 'a new challenge' means 'an easier challenge'.

An article on the SSN app today interviewing Levy from Spurs
He said they won't spend big money and will only buy someone who improves the team and they would prefer to use players from the academy.
So they won't pay big money for ROSS
Anything less than 30 m and we shoumd take the hit and put him in the reserves for the final year
