Koeman: "Barkley looking for a new challenge"

He informed the club/Koeman end of last season?!

Koeman and Everton fc were the ones who have dragged this out.

They've had many opportunities to tell us of barkleys decision! But decided to remain silent, making out it was barkley who was keeping quiet about the situation

Behave.
Barkley has kept his trap shut. He's no Evertonian.

Watch these highlights from Martínez first game when Barkley scored that screamer on YouTube, his performance that day was superb. I wish we could have THAT Barkley back again, what happened Ross?

That game he was immense and that's why nobody can deny his talent... it's also why nobody can deny he hasn't kicked on and in my opinion ... he has gone backwards.. his debut against QPR was another game like this. Now he just strolls around like he's not arsed.

You are in a better negotiating place to get the fee you want if someone has got 2 years left rather than 12 months. Do you think we'd be offering £45 million for Sigurddson if he only had 12 months left on his contract?!

Don't think it makes much difference to ross tho . Last season we wouldn't have got 50m for him. We would have got 25-30 maybe. But since the tv money has pushed everyone's price up... we will probably be getting 20-25m this year. So hant really lost out on much... just didn't maximise the fee .

Trouble is you don't know for a fact an effort to get him to commit wasn't attempted earlier. Personally I feel since the Gosling affair the club have been very efficient and prompt in ensuring players are presented with extensions in good time, and I'd be surprised if some approach to open negotiations much earlier was not attempted. But that's just my assumption like you I have no concrete facts to go on. We're both just guessing and creating our own story to suit our preformed views. It's ultimately a futile exercise.

This is my feeling too, to many players were being offered contracts and I don't believe that ross wasn't approached .

The one advantage that we do have this summer is that if he has a desire to play for England he needs to be playing, otherwise he looses out on a World Cup and I don't know a player who would want that.
It's not down to Ross though. He's made it clear how much he wants out and is probably prepared to except personal terms quickly so that's sorted. Now its down to other clubs putting in an offer we consider acceptable and I'm not sure we'll get one unless it's a panic buy on deadline day. If nobody comes in though I can see Ross signing a new deal just for appearances sake and either going next year or even in Jan for a more acceptable sum of money. He's really backed himself into a corner here because he's left us in a position were we might be better off letting him rot with the U23's rather then selling.

I know you've made it clear you don't like Ross on here but there's no need to rewrite history. That same Ross was also selfish and rarely put other players in. Lots of shots blasted over the top too. He's come on leaps and bounds since then.

I agree with most of that and that was the point I was making. Because of the World Cup we may have some leverage if we don't sell him in the summer.

Don't know about Jeffers but It's the truth with Michael for certain. I knew him and his old man well. He said that Smith forcing him to play through injury with injections damaged his ankle and career permanently.
Spot on. I knew one of the Physios at the club and they quit over it. In addition there were some comments from Wenger and Jeffers after the move that certainly alluded to the situation. @Runcornblue52

Don't agree at all.. he drove the team forward and created a lot of problems ... now he doesn't

13/14 - 6 goals. 0 assists.
14/15 - 2 goals. 2 assists.
15/16 - 8 goals. 8 assists.
16/17 - 5 goals. 8 assists.

To me that shows a huge growth and influence on the team since he came on the scene. Last 2 seasons he's been the main consistent creative drive of the side.

His breakthrough season was just that. Every kid has one. It's the following season that makes the player.

Fair do's. But some characters can be very divisive and very persuasive. Knowing the lad who told me I certainly wouldn't dismiss it as being a good part o the reason for 'a new challenge'.

I know nothing about Barkley's off field antics, but I do know that certain people can be 'very persuasive' and it doesn't matter who you are..... They have no rule book

I can imagine someone in his position feeling almost 'untouchable' ....right up to the point where reality hits home.
