Kone Signs on 3 Year Deal

He still has time to turn it around, but if Kone left in January for a nominal fee he'd be a strong contender for our worst ever signing. Not that it's his fault he's injured, but in terms of value for money it's hard to compare him favorably to anyone else we've ever had.

Kroldrup has to be a worse signing for me, as it was soon decided that he was never going to be good enough and then shipped out. Kone has been injured for 95% of the time and had he been fit then Martinez would have at least played him.

I liked Kone as a footballer and think he would have done well at Everton. Injury literally hobbled him. I harbour no opprobrium toward him for that. We move on (and in Eto'o and Lukaku, indeed we have).

At least Koudrup could hoof the ball down the pitch from danger at the very least or run up and down and get in peoples way.

Kone physically cannot even kick a ball for us or run. 5 million for someone who literally cannot play football. That is worse business in my eyes. Especially as when/if he is ever fit again he will be older and therefore more prone to it happening again!

Did Kroldrup do either of those things though?

I suppose then there is a distinction between 'worst player' and 'worst business'.

Kone was fit when we signed him, no one made a business decision to sign a crocked player.

pmsl, come to think of it you're right. Although they do all look the same OMG FFS RACIALIST ALERT!

Aye, dont remember losing 20 nil when he played :p although in the derby we lost that by 10, but that was morally.

But there was something there when we signed him and i guess we overlooked it to make the signing happen. He doesnt go from fully fit to magically injured the way he did without something like that happening. He came injured as well, partly due to ramadan and whatever was wrong with him hence him not starting or playing much before he was injured.

Kone needed quite a while to become match fit during the pre-season but I remember him always being available for matches. It was Traore who we signed on loan while he was out injured with a dodgy hamstring (that then came back a few weeks later).

way harsh on Li Tie! He was a very tidy footballer.
Himself and Scott Gemmill at least tried to play a bit of football in another otherwise terrible Pembridge-esque team!!
Li Tie was no world beater, but he was a bloody decent footballer

We swapped an Anichebe for this.

...don't think we swapped Anichebe. We got good money for Anichebe, he's not been a regular for the Baggies and has been out a lot with injuries. Nobody could forsee the Kone injury, one of those things. It's a blow that he's been unavailable but such things happen in football. I wouldn't for one moment say he's one of the worst players we've had.

Hindsight is a great thing.
