Kone Signs on 3 Year Deal

Nothing wrong with bringing Kone in; we have 2 strikers on the books. One is hit and miss and the other had an awful season.

Unlike most, I don't buy into the Jelavic is crap theory. Im sorry but you just don't go bad over night, its a mixtrure of various things and his confidence was an all time low, you could see that by the fact he always wanted the extra touch.

Kone will had pace, power and competition for places. Not the best price but, apart from the poor spell at Seville, he's averaged a goal every 2.5 games; and 11 goals in 30 odd appearances for a team that got relegated is not bad going

IMO, if he isn't sold on this window, he has until end of Decemeber to prove he's worth keeping hold of.

He was atrocious last season. Truly shocking.

He was atrocious, no denying that. But, he deserves another chance in my book. When he is on it, he is deadly. No idea what went wrong last year with him, but different manager and tactics might be the making of him.

I believe in Jelavic.

I'm really unsure about giving him another chance. How he went from so boss, to so bad was so weird.

But I'm not disagreeing with that at all. Baines has contributed even more, but he was signed young and could now be sold for a massive profit.

With that money, a replacement left back of genuine quality could be signed as a replacment, along with additions in other areas.

It's not rocket science is it that the best policy for a club with very little recources, is to buy young players with resale value.

All the signings Moyes has made in the last 4 or 5 years, has come from the sales of Lescott, Rodwell and Arteta. Thats 46 million right there.

Not much can be re invested by losing the likes of Martyn, Distin and Phil Neville!!

There are some clubs who are fortunate enough to be in a position to buy 30 year old players for millions of pounds and write that money off.

We're not one of them.

Moyes in the latter few years started the ball rolling of bringing in older players and giving existing ones longer contracts. It didn't lead to a reversal of fortunes did it? If Martinez brings a couple of older players in that's a continuation with what we've been doing...and he'll bring down the age of this squad by giving more younger players a chance than Moyes ever did...and that's where the profitability will come from in the future...as per usual.

Maybe. But I think he's so poor with the ball at his feet he doesn't strike me as someone who'll ever be able to do anything other than loiter around the six yard box hoping for half chances. No striker can get away with that type of game long term in this league. You have to have much more strings to your bow or you'll be found out....which he has been.

I've got no problem with signing kone at 29 for 5M if Roberto thinks he will get us the goals we need. You can't always sign young players with sell on value, some times you need the players for the here and now.

My problem is if we're going into next season with Vic jelavic and kone as our 3 strikers. Personally don't think that's good enough overall and there's only room for 2 of them, with one more being added, either quality marque type or young up and coming quality type.

IMO if he brings kone in...jelavic must go to pay for it!!

Perfect assessment IMO.

I don't know what it is, but something in my head is telling me Jelavic still has something to offer. Give him until January anyway.

Could be similar to the Johnson-Yakubu partnership (if he plays both Kone and Jelavic). Kone does all the running like AJ did and Jelavic slots, like Yakubu did.

There is far too much talk about players age. A player is at their peak at 29 and should have another three or four years at their best...more if they really look after themselves.
The squad has a good balance of youth and experience .
If Kone scores goals for us next season what difference does his age make.Age didn't bother SAF when he signed Van Persie who was 29 and had a horrific injury record behind him.
As Davek said bringing some youngster whose name ends in inho may look well but is a huge risk.

It shouldn't make a difference, and as mentioned before, we do need players for the here and now. But the situation Everton are currently in, we do have to look at player resale value. Not saying that should be the only factor, but it does have to be considered.
For the past 10 years, our transfer budget has been predominantly made up from player sales, so if we want to have a future transfer budget, the obvious conclusion is that we need players that we can sell in the future. Whether or not additional funds can be found, and the reasons for the current situation is a discussion for another thread, but at the moment, future player value does have to be considered.

Wages = low.

Doesn't mind the bench.

Saha was 30+ with a shocking injury record but slotted 10 a season. We paid him 80k a week.

Hes an option. We are generally out of options in the squad.
