Kone Signs on 3 Year Deal

We'd pay £10 million for a soon 30 year old from United who scored 11 goals? I don't agree.
Saha was 30 when we got him from United. He'd a much better goals ratio than Kone. We paid £2 million?

UTD paid 24 mil for a soon to be 30 year old soon to be out of contract player.

Saha was a crock who played 80 games in all comps in 4 years and had a much worse goals to game ratio than Kone.

People on here showing their lack of football knowledge if they think that 5m for a prem striker who has averaged better than 1 in 3 for all but one of his clubs and scored 11 for a relegated prem side is expensive.

Seriously, this hatred and negativity is weird towards a good and cheap player is just weird

Wasn't Saha come to Everton on a free?

I could be wrong. I think it was undisclosed, rumoured to be around £1-2million.

As I said, I'd love to be wrong about Kone's value. I rate him as a player..
But, given his age, the price does seem a little steep. Especially as he'll have little/no resale value.

Horrified by this signing, and what a terrible start to the Martinez era. Statement of intent? Realisation of poverty?

I'll hope to be forced to eat my words over the course of the season, but right now signing a soon to be 30 year old whose never actually been any good for 5m is unbelievable.

How do you mean, never been any good?

The bottom line is this: the additions of Alcaraz and Kone to our squad UNDOUBTEDLY improve the team, of this there can't be an argument
(Alcaraz > Neville, Heitinga) (Kone > Chebaby, 2013 Jela)
That being said they aren't the signings we need to get to the next level to compete with Spurs etc, and if our signings ended with these two I'd be furious.
But I highly doubt most people here think there won't be any more signings (sadly it might have to be a large influx after selling Baines or Felli)

Nail on head.

I don't understand all this "he's not very good". "Unambitious signing" comments that I keep reading. His career stats are 113 goals in 323 games, that's a goal every 2.85 games. That would more than likely be higher aswell if it wasn't for his spell at Sevilla, which between Fabiano and Kanoute playing so well and Kone picking up a cruciate injury on international duty, more than likely would have meant more playing time and more goals.

Realistically 5 million on a player that averages 10 - 15 a season is pretty good business if you ask me, especially as he knows the league etc. yes we could spunk 10 mil plus on a Bony etc, but there have been numerous occasions when players have come from the Dutch leagues etc as top scorer and have fallen in a massive heap.

Martinez has managed him, he knows his temperament and what he can bring to the team and our new style and for that reason and the above points I m very happy with this signing, I really think he will do very well for us.

Good post mate.

£5M for this feller would be a steal in the current market place.

We support Everton FOOTBALL Club mate, not The Everton School of Business.

I heard on twitter that was next choice if School of Science didn't stick....

This is an interesting comparison

http://www.eplindex.com/epl-news/34657/arouna-kone-comparison-everton-forwards-stats.html

So Kone has 11 goals and 5 assists from 32 games, while Anichebe has 7 goals and 4 assists but from only 19 games.

Extrapolating from those ratios, Vic would have scored 11.8 goals with 6.7 assists from 32 games. You know, if you could score .8 of a goal. :o

Tbf, we were in the chase for 4/5th for much of the season. If we'd been better in front of goal during that long patch of draws last year we could have been right in the mix at the end of the season. If Kone/Alcaraz can score/prevent a few more goals respectively compared to Jela/Heit that could make all the difference...

Whether we agree or not he is coming and the judgement that matters will be on the pitch. All we can do is hope for the best...and hope for "better" signings to come...funded by Jonny and Fellaini worst case (not Baines...please God).

Despite the fact that you've just posted proof to the contrary?

Find me another Mirallas for £10m, or another Coleman for less than £8m, or another Baines for less than £15m.

Selling those three would generate you enough funds to buy their replacements only.

The point was people were complaining about resale value and an aging squad. I say we've enough to resell and be fine.

Just to put this into context, Palace are about to spend £8.5 million on a championship striker who i've genuinely never heard of before..............you dont get a whole lot for £5m these days

£5million for a player who:
- Has 1 in 3 ratio, minus that spell at Seville (which he didn't play properly) is down to 1 in 2.5
- He scored 11 goals for a team that got relegated
- He's very fast (something Jelavic and Anichebe are not)
- He's powerful

Even if he converts half the chances that were squandered last year, thats going to be an extra 15 points, at minimum, and then the £5m outlay for a 30 year old is insignificant.
