KRIOC - Keep Rodwell In Our City

No, buying two or three quality players who will really help us kick on.

I wouldn't be keen on selling Rodwell, as I've said, but I don't think people are mad for considering it if a big bid came in for him. That's football, it happens alot, especially to clubs like us with little money.

Where do we need to improve? We have just outplayed the top 2 in successive games. We have been to 2 of the top 3's grounds and took points off them.

I agree with you that when you said injuries are playing a part your right - we are now seeing the benefits, but to be honest the long term casualties are not actually making the difference. It's the other lads who are standing up and getting counted.

I do agree you most of the time, secretly. :)

But this I think your wrong. I don't think we need to sign 3 quality players, we need Donovan, and if he is the only signing we make than I would be delighted.

We sell Rodwell, we may as well sell the others, because we are showing lack of ambition. When we sold Rooney we had to, we don't have to anymore.

Many of our squad were purchased as a result of selling others. Noone here wants to lose anyone, but as said, if there's a benefit to it, then no player is too big to be expendable.
Afterall, we all crave success for our team. The only difference is the debate on how best to achieve it.

Ok maybe he does, but calling Rodwell a backup is a massive insult to him, the academy and to football.

The lad is a star in the making, that is what he is. You don't sell your stars if you want to win trophies.
It's not an insult, it's a reality at the moment... unless your definition of back up/squad player is different to the one I am using. For me it's a player, who at the moment isn't good enough to be a starter and he's a valuable squad player. It doesn't mean it will stay this way forever and in Rodwell case, it's probably only matter of 2-3 years unless he will make it big time.

Also good luck in finding even post where I question Rodwell's talent.

Barcelona sold Ronaldinho and won CL again; MU is doing well without Ronaldo and did well without Beckham. We bounced back nicely following Rooney and Lescott sale. And Rodwell isn't even a star... yet.

And I wasn't here when we sold AJ... because at that time polish Everton site was enough for me (www.EvertonPoland.com | Oficjalny Polski Serwis Kibiców Everton FC) and I've put my input there. It didn't stop me to check many topics which existed here before I registered though.

Yeah a backup for me is someone like Senderos, or at the moment Yakubu. Rodwell is potential, and you don't sell potential - because the money you are losing is ten fold.

Rodwell is also not 2-3 years away. He will be ready before then.

Barca sold a player who was on the downturn of his career, it was a shrewd move, not really something you can compare with Rodwell.

Oh, and ask the 40,000 fans on Saturday if Rodwell is a star or not.

I understand you meant you weren't at this site when we sold AJ, fair comment.

Still though mate, it's not just about cashing in, it's about keeping your future stars. We sell Rodwell and we won't get the same quality of player for whatever price we get. Simple as that.

We sold Rooney, but we will never replace him, and I would sacrifice Pienaar, Arteta and Saha to have Rooney back in the team. Seriously.

We are a good side, there's no doubting that, but we are in need of one or two players to really kick on. We don't know how much Donovan will cost, it's all hearsay at the moment, who's to say it won't be around 10 million?

How do we find the money to pay got that?

2 now? it was 3 ten minutes ago.

I'm fairly confident we won't need to sell Rodwell to get Donovan. If we have to, then I would rather they didn't.

I don't think were a good side, I think were an excellent side, and clicking is all that was needed, and I can hear the cogs moving in unison mate.

Tell you next season, you'll be toasting the champions.

ronaldinho couldn't get a game, there were attitude issues etc that's why they cashed in on him.

And it wasn't long ago you where telling us all how bad we where. :)

We still lack need a winger and a second striker/attacking midfielder for me. We'd be able to get three if we sold Rodwell for 30 million, maybe even more.

AS HAYLEY SEE'S IT - if we don't want to sell our (and at very least britains) brightest prospect and he doesn't want to go then he will not go! He's not back up, he's up and coming but not yet a regular. This is due to a number of factors - to let him progress at a steady speed; to avoid burn out; the lad's only just retured from injury; he's still very young AND because we have so many decent, more experienced players at present! I thank you.

I think it summaries our discussion which is going for a few days now - I would never swap all this 3 players for Rooney. Rooney sale was one of the decisions which allowed us to move forward, I hope that we won't need a similar scenario with Rodwell though, but it wouldn't be end of the world, Moyes would get every penny from a buying club, and he would invest it properly. And at the end, front of the shirt is always more important that back of it, even if it's Rodwell's name being on back of the shirt with number 26.

To clarify - I don't give a damm what 40000 fans were thinking about Rodwell, as I didn't give a damm what they were thinking about him on tuesday.
Reading old topics here when majority of posters preferred Nugent (just because he's Blue, like it would make him a better player) over Yakubu, questioned Arteta's commitment, saw Lescott sale as a tragedy, etc... make me comfortable making my own decisions and predictions, not based on majority opinion. Even if they are passionate and wear right colours...

That is a sound opinion.

i`m very critical of moyes` tactics but hes a genius in the transfer market, his squad now is the best EFC since arguably the mid 80s. the balance has been achieved with donovans arrival WE HAVE TO SIGN HIM. this squad can win trophys - make no mistake. we dont have to sell rodwell so enjoy this season and see where these players take us
