Ok maybe he does, but calling Rodwell a backup is a massive insult to him, the academy and to football.

The lad is a star in the making, that is what he is. You don't sell your stars if you want to win trophies.

United have just sold the best player in the world according to many.
So did Barcelona. Liverpool sold Alonso too, and Arsenal both Henri and Vierra.
The list could go on, yet all these teams are still great teams.

At the moment he is a squad player. He is a star in the making, Stinger recognises his potential. He's just looking at the bigger picture, how does a club in our position raise money to improve the squad?

Sell someone, like we've done quite a few times under Moyes. Rooney, Lescott and Johnson all spring to mind, it's happened before and it'll probably happen again unless something changes at board level.

What is the bigger picture? Selling our youth just to pad out the squad?

It's not the fact that it's Rodwell, or that money would be handy. It's the fact that teams higher than us have built their success on their academy, and if we disregard them then we will never have success. That to me is the bigger picture.

True, but without selling these players we wouldn't have had a transfer budgets to improve in the squad. He probably wouldn't want to sell Rodwell, but anything could happen, it wouldn't surprise me if someone came in for Rodwell and once again, we are put on the spot.

I'm calm. I know where the ignore button is so I've moved on.

But we still need to keep Rodwell in our city. He's the flagship to our success. With others around him, Rodwell will be like the modern day Labone. If we can keep him.

No, buying two or three quality players who will really help us kick on.

I wouldn't be keen on selling Rodwell, as I've said, but I don't think people are mad for considering it if a big bid came in for him. That's football, it happens alot, especially to clubs like us with little money.
