KRIOC - Keep Rodwell In Our City

If Rodwell were to be sold what does that say about the ambition or indeed the aspiration of this club to get right up and there and into the CL.

Strikes me that it would makes us the perennial tried hard but never had the little extra.
No, it would be this way if we couldn't keep BOTH Fellaini and Rodwell.
Selling one of them (since one will be a back-up for another, at least for next 2-3 years) to strentghen other areas will be justified IMHO.
We have a chance for a success now - in this case 20m for Rodwell is more worth than current Rodwell as a player.

But no where near what he will be worth to us in 2-3 seasons. If he is this good now, imagine how dominant he will be with development. And he needs to do it with us. And he will do it with us.

Rubbish.

Rodwell is not a backup, he is a potential super star, and could bring in more than £20m if retained.

Rodwell value over the next 5 years could eclipse that amount.

Plus, why can't Rodwell and Fellaini play in the same team? There different types of player.

He is back-up right now. Maybe he could bring 40m in the future... but what if we won't have players on Pienaar, Arteta, Saha level then and it will just allow us to use this money similar way to funds we got from Rooney's sale - to strentghen a relatively poor squad, not a team of quality players we have now?
We have our chance now, and with Fellaini doing as well as he did this season, Rodwell is only a back up for him. Maybe their style is different, but position quite frankly is the same, and neither of them can run a team like Arteta.

I consider Rodwell to be the biggest talent we have at the club by quite a distance, there are few players around with his raw attributes. When he reaches 21-22, I think he’ll be far better than anything we currently have on our books. And I don’t mean as a holding midfielder, I’m talking about an all rounder.

I wouldn’t be keen on selling him, I’d much rather sell a squad player or two and raise money that way.

I don't think he is back-up. He is used sparingly to give him experience and help with his development.

We are a different club now, than when we sold Rooney. We don't need to sell to completely restructure. We need to continue doing it the way we have been. Picking up decent quality for cheap and one big signing. Slowly allowing the team to grow at a natural rate than to demand instant success with a long list of big signings who don't know how to play together as a team.

Not being funny, but he's been fuc*ing [Poor language removed] this season. And the reason we'v lost a few goals this year.

Saying that i hope we keep him.

But if Someone bid 25-30m i'd sell.....

In true heroes style

"Keep the Rodzlla, get fourth place"

- in fact, only sell and replace with better and get fourth place

Well not really mate. You make a point of criticising the club for having no ambition, and for a chairman who is not taking the club further - yet your happy to sanction a sale of a guy who more than likely is going to be more valuable than Wayne Rooney.

The manager himself has said we don't need to sell Rodwell, we don't really need that many more players. It's a young squad by in large, and apart from a freakishly rare injury crisis this squad would have been pushing CL football.

The long term benefits of retaining our talented youth can easily be matched to the rise of Manchester United. If it wasn't for their youth players in the early to mid 90's they would not be a force, simple as that.

If we continue to sell to buy more players then all were doing is treading water, why should we do that?

Please show me a single post on this forum were I have been a 'Kenwright out' type of guy.
You like to think that your opinion is the only opinion sometimes, and you often forget that with a huge fan base like ours opinions will always vary.

Not everybody on this forum thinks Rodwell is as good as others.
My own opinion is that he is a good player for his age, but he isn't in the same league as Pienaar or Fellaini, and with players such as Arteta, Bily, Osman, Gosling, Cahill, Neville and presently Donovan in the squad, we are very comfortable in midfield. If we wait for Rodwell to hit peak, our players will be past it in many areas.

I'm not saying I wouldn't like the lad to stay, but we need someone to be ready now, as we are very close to having a title winning side, and if we did get £30 mill for him ( and we won't ) we could get the players we need to complete the line up.

When we had Rooney, we had few players in the team that were really great players, but now we are in 2010, our team is full to the brim of great players, and Rodwell is just one of many.

If we can buy the missing pieces, then great, let the boy stay, but if we can't, we can afford to lose him if it means taking the team to the next level.

We're not even talking about a proven player here, but a kid with potential, so let's not get carried away.

How ironic- Ive just posted a comment on another thread that some are echoing here. Keep our best players FFS! Why sell anyone?! Lets add to what we have not take away.
In case of you missing it, check history of last 2 summers - we added a quality, while balancing the books.
I would love to be in situation when we just can spend even 10m net every summer, but apparently we are not this kind of club.

I wasn't here when we were selling A.J, but I was here when Lescott saga took place - most of you saw it like a tragedy, not believing that we will use this money properly to make a better squad overall. And Moyes just did it.

I would love to have Rodwell here for next 15 years here and getting him time to develop properly over next 2-3 years... but I can see a situation when selling him would allow us to be even better and more balanced team.

It’s a fair point, I don’t agree with it and think there are ways of getting around of it, but if there’s not it’s certainly a way of improving the squad. We did the same with Lescott, Rooney and to a lesser extent Johnson and McFadden.

we are a better balanced team and with everyone fully fit we can really compete, we have proved this by beating the big money boy's,
Jack and Felli should be a big part of our future, I can see both being awesome defencive midfielders with Ozzie, Arteta, Peanuts and Bily (he won,t be at his best till next year) as the alternating play-makers,
with Hietinga, Jags, Distan and Baines as first choice back four, bringing Coleman and Duffy through the ranks, both I believe have great futures,
