Food for thought, a respected football journalist here in the States, Grant Wahl (the guy who wrote the Beckham book), wrote today that Donovan has a buy-out clause in his new contract for around $10 million U.S. So that's the price should he impress.

You beat me to it, and at the exchange rate it's only 6 mill in pounds.
here is the tweet:
1. LD contract has release clause. 2. MLS transfer price for LD has always been around Altidore's price. Doubt that has changed.

It doesnt matter, he cant leave the MLS, not after he ripped Beckham so much last time, he would look a right cant.

Well, he said what he said because Beckham was an LA player missing half the MLS season to stay on with his loan team. Circumstances would have been different had Beckham been sold to Milan at the end of the initial loan period, just as they would for Donovan if Everton opted to purchase him and Donovan was game. No chance Donovan extends the loan if MLS season goes forward (potential strike atm).

Actually, I'm pretty sure that he is eligible for purchase at the end of this loan period. As early as March as unlikely as it sounds. But 6 million pounds is not small change for Everton so he'd have to really impress and want to make the move permanent himself.

I've watched the Confederations cup so I knew he was boss. He will help us a lot and sadly shows what we miss in the team and what we should have been after in the summer. That 10m spent on Bilyaletdinov should have been spent on a pacy winger.

6-7M pounds would be about right. However:

1) MLS doesn't have to sell and Landon just signed a four year deal. My guess is that the price will be higher IF he ends up leaving.

2) He signed for roughly 2.2M USD per season. I don't know what that translates into in terms of weekly wages in GBP terms but Everton would have to pay the same if not a bit more.

3) If he does as well for us as I think he can, there very well could be a bidding war for his services. There aren't just USA & LA Galaxy supporters interested in his progress.

Oh, and welcome to GOT. (y)

1) Thats why I cant see it happening.
2) That works out about $42k a week, which would "only" be about £30?k a week, easy peesey that.
3) This is true, but we always have the upper hand, players are made to feel welcome and WANT to stay.
