Landon Donovan

1) Thats why I cant see it happening.
2) That works out about $42k a week, which would "only" be about £30?k a week, easy peesey that.
3) This is true, but we always have the upper hand, players are made to feel welcome and WANT to stay.

Very good point on #3. Howard would certainly give him the tour of the town and make sure that he enjoys his time here as would the other players.

6-7M pounds would be about right. However:

1) MLS doesn't have to sell and Landon just signed a four year deal. My guess is that the price will be higher IF he ends up leaving.

2) He signed for roughly 2.2M USD per season. I don't know what that translates into in terms of weekly wages in GBP terms but Everton would have to pay the same if not a bit more.

3) If he does as well for us as I think he can, there very well could be a bidding war for his services. There aren't just USA & LA Galaxy supporters interested in his progress.

Oh, and welcome to GOT. (y)

Actually, Wahl implies that MLS would be forced to sell at the buy-out price, that's the point of the clause in the contract, assuming Donovan wanted the move. As to your third point, his loan agreement may come with a built-in price for Everton, albeit unlikely from all the rhetoric about it being just a 10-week loan and nothing more.

Thanks for the welcome.

I agree. I guess my point was that we could offer 10M but then say a Spurs or Villa come in and say we'll give you 15M. Redknapp's been know to hijack a few transfers too. :P

The good news is that Donovan holds significant clout in the negotiation and would scupper any deal that didn't fit within his comfort zone. Given his past struggles in Europe, if he were to move the first consideration would be familiarity and money would come second. He's proven this over the course of his career.

Anyway, it's premature to speculate after one performance, but it's good fodder for later should things go well.

Very true and a good ace in the hole for Everton.

Donovan today helped Ossie put in a full shift, the lad was good and I enjoyed watching him. Lets hope his, and the teams performance will be replicated next week against the idle rich from down the East Lancs..............incidentally its on ESPN live from 4.45, you heard it here first

Serious man points were wearing a short sleeve shirt as well today!

Eh, it was actually a long-sleeve shirt that he pulled the sleeves up from time to time. But agreed on the point! (y)
