Lethal Weapon - daft shoot 'em up elevated by charismatic performances from Glover & Gibson. 6/10

Alien Covenant - the worst Alien film: cheap CGI, even dumber crew than Prometheus, boring standard story (blow it through the airlock...again...what a yawnfest)...and the biggest problem of all was ditching the promising mythology-building of Prometheus in favour of one mad android being the centre of everything...what a crock of crap. Go finger yer brother and feck off, Ridley. 3/10 - gets points for that one good scene where the albino aliens were stalking the crew in the field, and for killing of James Franco early.

The Howling - one of a quartet of werewolf films that came out in 1980/81: this is a 5/10 on par with American Werewolf in London: great make-up FX, some interesting bits but ultimately a bit plodding with zero scares. The 7 (seven!) sequels I won't bother with. Altered States is brilliant, needs a rewatch as haven't seen it in more than a decade, it's an 8 or 9/10. Wolfen is the other one of the quartet, haven't seen it but reviews sound good.

Altered States is many things matey, but a werewolf fillum it is not. Wolfen is worth a watch.

aye, it was deffo pushing it to group Altered States with that werewolf-trio. Whereas that trio are a bit trashy b-movie perhaps (not in a bad way), Altered States is proper cinema: expert camera work, high-end acting, intelligent script and asks deep philosophical questions.

Watched the '86 Alex Cox picture "Sid and Nancy" for the first time in yeeeears the other night.

Terrific performances from Gary Oldman and Chloe Webb, really affecting and harrowing. Some flashes of humor but on the whole it's pretty grim. The period detail and "feel" for the late 70's is dead on as well. Other Pistols and McClaren are hardly featured, but it's dated very well and worth your time.
Great location work in Manhattan as well.

Rotten and the other band members have slagged it to hell, which I'd imagine is because it's far too close to the bone and perhaps doesn't portray them in a wholly positive light, but I think it's a great film.

Haven`t seen that for years, I`m going to look it up again now !

It`s a really brave film in many ways, as it showed him for what he was - " a hopeless junkie " who couldn`t handle the big time and a very fragile human being.

Gary Oldman is brilliant as Vicious.

It didn't focus so much on the music or punk movement as a whole, it zeroed in on the title characters and was very much a twisted love story. I found it so sad at points, the early fun optimism of the film gradually dissolves into depression and trauma by the end. The photography used starts as vivid colour, and gradually goes almost to black and white by the end of the film...symbolic of Sid and Nancy's decline. Oldman and particularly Webb are outstanding, totally believable.

I like Alex Cox and his quirky, anarchic approach to his films, he's an interesting film-maker with a wide and varied catalogue of pictures. I always remember his "Moviedrome" series on BBC 2 - sadly missed programme, that.

I suppose back then, being thrust into the limelight and becoming a globally recognised pop culture icon at such a young age, with no proper guidance and management was just overwhelming for a dumb kid from South London....

Throw a manipulative, controlling and needy heroin-addicted mess like Nancy into the mix and it was only gonna end in tears.

Brilliant movie, absolutely worth seeking out.

"But Sidney's more than a mere bass player. He's a fabulous disaster. He's a symbol, a metaphor, he embodies the dementia of a nihilistic generation. He's a f******' star..."

Been on a bit of a binge over a long weekend:

I like Sandra Bullock and it's fine as a fillum but... It's about a detestable git of a right wing politician being puppeted into office by slick spin masters and how awful that is, and Clooney and Heslov produce it. But then you find out that Trump stooge Minuchin is also a producer... ah it's all a load of bollocks innit?

Smashing flick, really enjoyed this, irreverent and charming Gallic yarn where a female Indiana Jones takes on Pterodactyls, Les Gendarmes and well mannered mummies. Well recommended.

Makes an incredible story kinda boring. Quite a feat.

Textbook black comedy. Absolutely brilliant, loved it.
