Last Film You Watched

saw these on the home beamer these last few months:

Curse/Night of the Demon (1950's) - was a GOT-recommendation this, was worth a curious look. 6/10

Cloverfield Paradox - first two Cloverfields are great, this one is horrible. 2/10

The Grey - fine leftfield-macho popcorn. 7/10

Dark Tower - among my favourite books...fail of a film. 3/10

Home Alone 1 - still funny! 8/10
Home Alone 2 - lazy rip-off 2/10

6 Souls - bit of a mess but had potential. 5/10

It's a Wonderful Life - i'd never seen it before, we watched it on xmas day and i shed a very rare tear...what a film! instant top 10. 10/10

Vertigo - on a James Stewart roll but Hitchcocks haven't aged well. Still worth a watch. 6/10

The Adjustment Bureau - can't abide Matt Damon for some reason. Silly film. 3/10

Moby Dick (1956) - deffo one of the greats. Brilliant build-up. This massive whale still looks better than any CGI attempts. 9/10

Salyut 7 - dry and faithful drama of a heroic moment in space history which no one knows about as the Russians did it. 8/10

Stargate - it was better as a teenager in the 90's...aged badly but still mild fun. 5/10

Mother! - was really good until the baby scene. Shock value isn't high art. 6/10

The Wooden Horse, very interesting story, 1950s war film, similar story to the Great Escape, very similar, in fact its based on a escape attempt from the same camp.

Good old black and white this, worth a watch if youlike films from the 50s, low budget, the guy who played the lead roll was an assistant prosecutor against the SS at the war crimes trial for Belsen concentration camp.

after a random conversation that went from starbucks awful coffee leading to the works of Melville, I re-watched the gregor peck version of moby richard, still a fine film with great performances

aye, the whole cast really looked & sounded like whaling men from the 1840's...adds a lot to the sense of involvement in the experience. I did read the book yonks ago, but freely admit skipping loads...it's a hard read, the technical detail on whaling is intense.

It is a tough read, and though the film obviously glosses over Melville homoerotic imagery somewhat, as you say the cast all look tough as nails and every inch a tough Gloucester (I think) whale boat crew. The lean gigantic Pacific islander, that fella with the bobble cap, and the loyal till death bosun.

and not least, the bearded widows seeing the Pequod off:

Ghost Stories on Netflix. Wasn't sure if it was meant to be a horror or comedy until funnily enough Paul Whitehouse appeared then realized it was meant to be scary. Fair do, his story was spooky. Not sure about the ending but good all round entertainment 7.5 ghoulies out of 10.
