The dialogue is always a highlight in Tarantino films, that wasn’t the problem. I just think it could’ve benefitted from some better editing. I mean, I don’t need to see someone nail a door shut 4 times.

I actually appreciated that, the repetition of it hit home that nailing that door had to be done every time. It added to the sense of them being ensconced in that place.

The Hateful Eight.

I love a Quentin Tarantino movie, full of style and thought. But this one was too slow-moving for me. I liked the story, characters and setting, but it took me about 4 sittings to get through it!
To me, this one felt a lot like outtakes from Django Unchained, and I found it fairly hard going.

Under the Silver Lake. Slow and completely impenetrable Lynch-lite, but very atmospheric and intriguing. Andrew Garfield very good in the lead role. As it's by the director of the excellent It Follows, it feels a lot like when Richard Kelly followed up Donnie Darko with Southland Tales i.e. most people expecting a dazzling follow-up will think WTF? And it will alienate anyone looking for another It Follows. It's very hit and miss, but I'd rather sit through something which has big ambitions - even if it doesn't come off properly - than yet another formulaic film.
