Last Film You Watched

Tried to watch Martyrs, couldn't do it, really horrible. I saw it in the best horror movies lists on a YouTube channel..its not horror . It's just torture...or as far as I got anyways. Would not reccomend..unless your stomach is steely or your a psychopath.

Since the fantastic Agnès Varda died the other day (she was making films up until she was 90), Mubi have been showing a few films. Somehow I haven't see this, her most critically acclaimed. I've seen many of her first films, few of her more recent but missed out on the films she was making in her 70's.

Anyway, It's a brilliant film which is no too dissimilar to a lot of the Netflix crime docu/dramas of today. But told the Varda was, which means nothing like the Netflix things. I guess I'm trying to say it felt way ahead of its time.

Watched Flags Of Our Fathers and then Letters from Iwo Jima over the last two nights.
Interesting to watch two films back to back about the same event, Letters from Iwo Jima was far better though in my opinion.

I guess it was an important part of the back story to the American side of things, but the stuff about the bonds drive...etc i thought was a bit slow, i know good war films shouldnt just be about action, but i dunno, i just found it a bit slow.
Letters from Iwo Jima though i thought was brilliant.

Watched this when I was going through a list of the 20 most disturbing films of all time. I thought it was a good horror with an actual storyline. The first half of the film reminded me of a scarier 'The Ring'. Had to stop that list when I got to 'Salo' after just about enduring 'a Serbian Film'. The list beat me.

I thought Martyrs was a decent film as well, the only two I have watched and wouldnt view again were August Underground and Begotten

Another mega performance from Joaquin Phoenix :

You Were Never Really Here.

Phoenix excels as a deeply disturbed ex Gulf War / CIA vet, who now specialises in finding abducted girls.

This is the type of film that only Phoenix can do.

Won`t be for everyone, as it`s very slow in parts, quite weird and trippy in others ( flashbacks / dream sequences ) and incredibly brutal.

It`s also not very long.

Great film.
