Last Film You Watched

Waiting for Parasite in the cinema before I compare.
Obviously both movies are about class, Snowpiercer just hits me harder on it.

I think the thing with Parasite, for me, was that it was built up so huge that I was expecting the best movie ever made. I probably need to watch it again to give it another chance. It was a perfectly fine move, but I was more floored by Marriage Story, Joker, 1917 and Hollywood

Same, apart from Marriage Story which I thought was pretty boring. Its no ‘War of the Roses’!

Uncut Gems - I quite liked the style, its got a weird, 80’s vibe to the score and a good performance by Sandler. The problem I had with it is its manic approach, comic hoodlums and meaningless characters. Sandler doesn’t really spiral into anything, just keeps riding the wave of misfortune like its not real.

Vox Lux - Again with the Lo-Fi approach, which really works for the first part of the film, but falls horrifically flat in the second part. Its a mess and doesn’t recover.

The Grudge - Thought we’d get out of the heat and watch a movie. Its a proper stinker. Some scares but really bizarre choices with any sense chucked out the window. Best part was the trailer for ‘Invisible Man’, which looks quite good but I had to turn down working on coz I was working on something else!

I really enjoyed this when I saw it at the cinema, but re-watching it on DVD I noticed its flaws. Portman plays it way too broad, and it just takes a mis-step it doesn't really recover from, but the film does have something. Enjoyed Scott Walker & Sia's musical contribitions. I quite like Brady Corbet as a director, even if he is somewhat up his own starfish.

They had a brilliant film cooking in the opening scenes, I thought this could be great. The choice to then have Portman playing her was a huge mistake, she looks about a foot shorter and there was no real transition from her younger days. Definitely a film of two halves and a missed opportunity.

Underwater

Alien meets cloverfield but under water.

Garbage, only saw it because the person I was with wanted to see it. I spent most of duration of the movie on my phone and laughing at the person I was with when they jumped.

Still, can't grumble too much at 100thb for the ticket.

A couple of shop employees, described by others as "slow", feel the need to go on the run following their involvement in a serious accident at work. A very strange road trip ensues as they attempt to evade capture by the Feds. I quite enjoyed it. If the film was saying that, left to our own devices, we are all capable of making strange choices then I agree...
