Last Film You Watched

Was it really the best film of the year, I mean really, stinks of Hollywood bowing to pressure after the diversity card has been raised again this year.

I'm sick to death of hearing about diversity during awards season, not enough Black people, Asian people nominated, maybe just White people acted better, directed better and made better films this year, that's all it should be about. When you start nominating for diversity's sake that's when the awards are tarnished and start to mean less.

Yes, it won because it's a bloody amazing film.

Why do you find it so hard to believe that a foreign film could be better than an english speaking film ? Why is that concept so outlandish to you that you have to resort to thinking a foreign film only won because of diversity ?

Is it not possible that this year a korean person just directed a better film than an english speaking person did ?

Joker...1917 was very good, visually stunning the way it was shot.
Yeah before the show (yes it is a show, not to be taken seriously I defo agree) joker and parasite were my picks for best picture, 1917 was visually fantastic but nah not the best film there. have you even seen Parasite though mate, you should give a shot

Defo gonna get shouted at now mate

Yeah, without Phoenix Joker becomes pretty forgettable. A lot of the best scenes in that film (the dance in the bathroom for example) weren't even in the script and they were created by Phoenix on the fly. Without that sort of inspiration you wonder how it could've gone the other way.

1917 was bent over for the academy as well.

Off to see parasite tonight so cant really comment on it but it seems to have blown people away.

The greatness of 1917 was how it was shot and how amazing it looked, in terms of story it was nothing special but the overall visual experience made it enjoyable.

Joker was good but like Coollino say it was carried by Phoenix, it also borrowed heavily from Taxi Driver and King of Comedy.

Parasite is just the complete package, it's genuinely unique, has a great script, doesn't fit into any specific genre, is wonderfully shot and most importantly has subject matter that crosses cultures hence why it's blown up so much outside of the Asian market.

I mean, a character study film will always be forgettable without a stand-out performance from the lead, that's kinda the point of those types of films.

You've just typed utter tosh, trying to make out I'm being racist, where the hell I have said a foreign language film can not beat any other film?

I preferred other films to parasite, is it the best foreign language film ever?, because it's the first to ever win best picture, why this year?, have they bowed to the diversity pressure, that was the point I was making and I personally think they have a bit.

Did you watch Parasite though? That's the important part.

Your first reaction to it winning is you suggesting it won because of diversity. I didn't call you racist although now you've brought up racism it should be noted your previous username the mighty quint was banned for racism...

It doesn't have to be the best foreign language film ever, it just has to be the best film of the year, which many people think it is.

because it was only the best film in 2019, it won because other english language films were not that good, of course Parasite wouldn't have won if it was shot in 2007, no country for old men would have won yet again, same with A Beautiful Mind in 2001. All about the competition, it is not their fault that other films were not legendary.

Bet you didn't even watch it.

Might not be the best film of the year, though it's very very good imo. No less deserving than some of the films that have won it in recent years, and certainly far more deserving than others
