Parasite is just the complete package, it's genuinely unique, has a great script, doesn't fit into any specific genre, is wonderfully shot and most importantly has subject matter that crosses cultures hence why it's blown up so much outside of the Asian market

Aye, it's very distinctive. I haven't seen 1917, but it does strike me as one of those films that was calibrated for an Oscar win. I have no doubt that it's excellent, but it is great to see an out-there film pick up the prize

Besides, 1917 had a Sikh or something in one of the scenes. Diversity gone mad.

Nope. I asked some basic questions which were relevant to what you posted, you ducked every single one and said i was calling you a racist. So again here are the questions:

Why do you find it hard to believe that a foreign film could have won on merit rather than diversity ? Your first reaction to it winning was that it "stinks of Hollywood bowing to pressure after the diversity card". Why is that your first impression ?

Is it not possible that this year a Korean person just directed a better film than an English speaking person did ?

I mean if it was a rubbish film you may have something bordering on a point but its by far the most critically acclaimed film of the year, in-fact its one of the most critically acclaimed films of the past decade.

Yes, I think it's overrated, I watched it because people were raving about it on here.

I just prefer Joker, which is probably the best film I watched last year, and I like war movies, 1917 is stunning the way it's shot and a good tale.

Longers said why do I think a foreign language film can not be the best film, I said or implied nothing of the sort, of course it can be, I just don't think the story in parasite is anything special.

Was it really the best film of the year, I mean really, stinks of Hollywood bowing to pressure after the diversity card has been raised again this year.

I'm sick to death of hearing about diversity during awards season, not enough Black people, Asian people nominated, maybe just White people acted better, directed better and made better films this year, that's all it should be about. When you start nominating for diversity's sake that's when the awards are tarnished and start to mean less.

Parasite was a brilliant film and thoroughly deserved to win.

Exactly this.

Consider me in the camp who watched Parasite, thought it was a good film with flaws, and wasn't all-in on the love-fest that it had been on since it was released.

I preferred 1917, Marriage Story and Hollywood, but have no qualms for Parasite winning Best Picture.

I'm going to watch a few of the Korean films on Netflix. Really enjoyed the Wailing and Burning and a Korean Odyssey was one of the best TV series I've seen.

They live - first time I'd seen this last night. Very strange film, not sure if it was meant to be a comedy or horror! 7/10
