Last Film You Watched

Parting Shots, a 1999 film starring Chris Rea in his only acting role alongside all these big names like Joanna Lumley, Felicity Kendal and John Cleese. It was the last film Michael Winner directed.

The plot is basically a failed wedding photographer being told he has six weeks left to live, so after looking through a photo album one night of photos of people who screwed him over, he buys a gun from a barmaid played by Lumley and uses it to kill all the people who screwed him over during his life and goes on the run with another woman played by Kendal, while chasing the police.

The idea on paper works well, but the film just sucks and it’s so poorly executed, while the ending just feels tagged on, it’s not explained properly and it just sucks. It glamourises murder as if it’s no big deal, attempts at humour that just fall flat and don’t make any sense (such as the shadow on nose joke), the characters are unlikeable and Rea’s character does not show any remorse in killing his victims and makes a big joke out of it.

I’m sure Rea loved making it, seeing how he just plastered his songs recorded for the film all over it and we are made to suffer for 1hr and 48mins.

The whole thing is up on YouTube if you want to put yourself through with it.

Watched 2 classics tonight, The Commitments and White Men Can’t Jump …… easy viewing
The Commitments, I really need a re-watch of that absolutely class film. I was in London once when it had just come out and I walked past the whole cast in Piccadilly circus, I'm too cool for autographs though lol

Since watching the film is a chore, this review will make it a lot more easier.

Even the guy reviewing this said it was rare to find, so had to use a recording off from ITV. I thought it was a joke that ITV shown it, but it was serious. It looks like a TV movie rather than something for theatrical release.

Time for me to watch something good, that Polish murder series on Netflix I think is a good bet.

Such a shame, read that and it sounds ace.
