Last Film You Watched

Watched Se7en for the first time in about 20 years. When you know what's coming it loses all impact.

What really stood out is how one dimensional an actor Brad Pitt was, maybe still is. His mannerisms, his delivery in all of those early films are just copy paste with a different script.

The detective in Se7en, the lunatic in Kalfornia and the loony in 12 Monekeys are essentially the same guy with the volume raised or lowered.

It works well for the 12 Monkeys guy, less so for the others.

His thoughtful devil in Meet Joe Black was very dull, and a painfully long film. Since the late 90s it's got a little better on the whole, but he's never someone that springs to mind as being a great actor.
Brad Pitt always just plays Brad Pitt, when he is cast it is usually because the producer / director whoever wants exactly that; A-lister, star quality. His name will attract an audience, but a good actor by skilful acting methodologies he is not. Certainly not when taken comparatively against an experienced character actor say like Michael Sheen, who tends to disappear into the role.

Tom Cruise is a fair example of someone who was able to move away from that sort of "just a big name on a billboard" status to someone who can actually take on and accomplish a role; see: War of the Worlds, Collateral, or Tropic Thunder.

I don`t have a lot of faith in Netflix to get it right tbh.

They always seem to do " half a job " with films and as a result they can tend to be a bit flat.
yeah, Netflix and films still don't work...with the exceptions like Roma or Marriage Story of course.

Cheers mate, crossed wires !
You are right, though. The Don Winslow Power of the Dog trilogy is brilliant and I think would make an excellent film or TV series. I thought the same as you when I first heard about the Jane Campion film, but from the reviews I've read it will still be worth going to. That is based on a book from 1967, I believe. Totally different genre but well worth reading by the sound of it.

Not sure if you are aware, but Don Winslow has another trilogy ready for publication. The first book is due out next year - City On Fire - is out next year. Again, it is organised crime based and about clashes between rival Irish and Italian gangs/families in New England.

And Shia The Beef annoying everyone involved in the production by really getting into his role.
Haha, I am actually a fan of the beef. I know a little about his temperament on set. But it comes down to acting methodologies again, I have seen some performances of his which have been so good; American Honey, The Peanut Butter Falcon, I have to say, the beef might not be everyone's cup of tea, but the guy sure can act.
