Midnight Express
Whilst wildly different from the book and somewhat controversial (due to portraying every Turk as deceitful, sexually deviant, violent and frankly psychopathic), Alan Parker's '78 "prison is hell" drama still packs an emotional punch.
Great script from Oliver Stone, powerful performances all round (here the lead Brad Davis just kills it) and a superb Giorgio Moroder synth soundtrack.
The bit when the main guard "Hamid the Bear" savagely beats the feet of rapist boys in the prison yard for all the other cons to witness before taking his own children to school sticks in the memory.... always disturbed me that.
"Jesus Christ forgave the bastards... But I......Can't"
Will watch just for the soundtrack .Started off well.
Big disappointment in the end
Bone Tomahawk ??
I think that's its name, I got the wife to watch it last night, She, Well we both love Kurt Russell. It stated on Amazon Prime ... Horror Comedy Western. Hmmmmm comedy ??? Really ??? Slow and steady all the way through till......
The ending.... wow, Just wow, possibly the most violent, sickening ending to a film ever.
Bloody brilliant. Oh and Kurt Russell still rocks.
8/10
Always happy to make recommendations for date nightHow did you get your missus to watch that !!!!!!
I "tricked "my missus into watching it and she`s never forgiven me lol
On the recommendation of @ste d' indica I went to the cinema to see it.
At the end of the film, people were just sat there in a stunned silence.
As you say, it`s got one of the most powerful endings that you`ll ever see.
I`ve watched it many times since then and still love it, but I`ve got to be really ready to watch it.
It would also make a fantastic book too.

When Scott had a decent script he was boss. "Revenge" was good - a forgotten crime drama with Kevin Costner, Anthony Quinn and Madeline Stowe. "The Hunger" was also great. And "True Romance" was boss.Flicking through the channels last night and 'Enemy of the state' was on.
Decided to watch as I remember it as 'OK' on release.
It's basically 2 hrs of Tony Scott tropes.
Awful script, caricature characters.
Aged badly. 4/10
The problem I had with it was it was trying to be too many things..... and the script was a bit of a mess. Plus a lot of the characters just weren't likeable. The landmine improvised escape scene was genius though.Started off well.
Big disappointment in the end
