Last Film You Watched

Becomes a fairly average, typical American war film after that in my opinion.
It’s probably the best war film I’ve seen and the only bit of WW2 film that rivals Band of Brothers in terms of quality. No coincidence that the same people were involved.

For me Band of Brothers is one of the very best pieces of film of all time, regardless of genre.

Trying to think of a good war film. Don’t think I’ve seen anything that matches books like ‘all quiet on the western front’ or ‘birdsong’ Hollywood films always seem to end up showing some ‘against all odds, heroic endeavour’ sort of thing.

Saving Private Ryan.

I recall seeing it near the time of release but I was young so I had very little memory of it. It felt like I was watching it for the first time.

The opening scene in particular, as expected, was harrowing.
I think I was 7 or 8 when I first saw it, my parents rented it and I had to go to the bathroom during the opening scene to vomit because it scared me so bad. Great movie though.

Das Boot is every bit as good as the book and I’d deffo put it in the outstanding films category, regardless of it being a warm film.

I'll secind this..... Infact, the original Mini Series that the film was cobbled together from makes the ultimate 'directors cut.'

They spend what feels like an hr evading the destroyer. Unbearable tension.

No war film comes close.

(actually I'm one of the few that Absolutely loves "The Thin Red Line." beautifully shaota and some interesting human questions asked.)

Yep, to translate the boredom , the claustrophobia and sheer from the book, to the screen is some doing.
