The Magnificent Seven (2016)

May have reviewed this before.... don't care what anyone says, this is a more than worthy remake. A terrific cast spearheaded by Denzel, Pratt, Hawke & Pvt Gomer Pyle himself. Doesn't outstay it's welcome with a running time just over 2hrs, of which more than a full quarter is dedicated to the epic climatic showdown.

I suppose it is in line with having an overarching narrative that ties the whole Craig era together...

To me the one of the appeal of Bond is that he endures. You start turning him into a scarred veteran with a gammy knee and alimony to keep then you are turning it into a more character driven story rather than a spy action/thriller.

I guess that is the way the world is going now, with everything from Dark Knight trilogy to Mission Impossible to MCU. You can't just have a neat standalone adventure now, everything has to be part of a bigger story spanning several films.

I agree the ending is decent, and a nice send off for Craig that the other Bonds didn't get. But I'm still judging it on the staples that all the Bond movies have, and how good a standalone movie it is.

Although Craig is a bit too rugged as a Bond for me, I think he's done a great job in the role and his movies hold up very well with the exception of Quantum.
Yeah i liked it, it had enough fun bond stuff whilst still feeling modern, not. An absolute clasic bond but Decent

Yeah I'd ignore reviews of his films, i thought The Lighthouse was one of the best films I've seen for years but others hated it.
Very subjective people’s views on films, watched Dune at the cinema thought it was great, watched it last night ( with subtitles ffs) still thought it was great, daughter watched it thought it was (to use my words not hers ) utter bilge.

It’s better than I’d thought it’d be

I loved it to bits, but it did strike me as a film you would have to see in the cinema.

I always skipped by assuming it would be awful.

I'll give it a go.

Turned off batman, was so bored. Will try finish during the week, thought King Richard was very good, great performance from fresh Prince 7.8

This going down the dark serious route for super heroes doesn’t work nowadays. Rather go for the Peacemaker comedy style, kick ass which I watched the other day was also funny..
