Last Film You Watched

I think so, it was over three hours long.

I'm not on a windup, I just lost interest as it dragged on. Prepared to be a pariah on this, I just don't find it as great as everyone tells me it is.
It’s an acquired taste. Has all the mad legends about the making of it as well as which adds to its value i think. Really believe Martin Sheen had no idea what was going on by the end

Straight up, I believe the making of is a better story than this confused herring of a film.

I get that you like it, I want to like it. But, there are plenty of moments you would be forgiven for giving up on it. The whole "where is the CO?" bridge scene. Too long, badly lit, doesn't move the story. Takes forever.

The 2nd dr strange…it was almost fascinating how bad it was. One of the worst movies I’ve ever seen

Watched A Streetcar Named Desire after, first time I’d seen it. Was excellent.

Also watched Death of Stalin for I’d say the fifth time in a few years. Just genius writing, casting and comic acting

Apocalypse Now. Alright, hear me out. I just don't rate it. You're thinking of the Valkyrie scene; but there is a hell of a lot of confused, pretentious filler.

At one point the crew of the boat trade diesel to help Playmates stuck on a helicopter. It takes twenty minutes.

The whole French rubber plantation thing drags like a David Starkey talk on Brexit.

Then, the climax. Behave, it's badly lit, badly scripted foolishness.

Come at me, but you know I am right.

I was blown away by it on my first watch

Re-watched it the other day and did find myself quite bored at parts. There's certainly parts between the first and third act that drag.

I think the whole mythology around the film propels it to the status it has.

Coppola and Sheen nearly dying due to the stress. Hopper being off his cake throughout, Brando turning up overweight, not knowing his lines and refusing to work with Hopper.

Amazing how it managed to get made and become the film it did really.

Plus, Coppola sinking every penny of his own money into it and very nearly going bust.

The fog of war...
Also, total war is total hell.

I can acknowledge differing opinions on the script, certain sequences etc.

But saying the climax is badly lit is factually incorrect. Willard emerging from the water is one of the greatest, most iconic shots in all of film. The juxtaposing of him assassinating Kurtz with the sacrificial killing of the cow and the frenetic Doors music is really well edited together.

Went to see Elvis The Movie last night. It was excellent. Austin Butler who plays Elvis is outstanding. The story is told from Colonel Parker's perspective. Tom Hanks plays him and, to be honest I don't think it's one of his better performances. However it doesn’t detract from the overall film. I wouldn't describe myself as an Elvis fan but really enjoyed it.

I've only watched it once, isn't there footage at the end of some animals being killed? That put me off it, or I might be thinking of Southern Comfort.
Apocalypse Now I found too long and boring but I always thought it was just me, glad you've said that, it's like a film people name drop who don't watch many films haha

Fair enough, I meant badly lit in the sense that it's sometimes too dark for me to work out what I am looking at.

Agree on the Willard water shot, the water buffalo getting slaughtered made me uncomfortable, not sure we're going to agree there.

Anyway, I'm going to watch Gremlins 2 tonight, which is probably more on my level.

Imo, you have to be in the right mood to watch Apocalypse Now, as it requires full concentration for the whole film.

Whether you like the film or not, there`s many astounding performances in it, Brando being the standout, followed by Sheen, but also from the likes of Hopper and Duvall in support too, even a very young Lawrence Fishbourne.

The " Charlie Don`t Surf " scene. is one of my all time favourite scenes. It`s just magical and even though it was only a small part, no one else could`ve played it like Duvall did.
