Last Film You Watched

The Marvels - utterly dreadful which is a shame as I enjoyed Captain Marvel and the Ms Marvel series but this was ugh, down there with Eternals and Thor The Dark World for worst MCU Movies

Aftersun is really excellent, quite heavy going mind you.

Just watched.

Glad I was by myself tbh, as it required full attention.

Considering that was the director and writers first film, that’s some doing.

I loved the very clever and subtle dark undertones, hinting that all was not right with the dad all the way through and the really ambiguous, but very dark ending too.

Deserves all the awards it got and very much reminded me of the type of thing I’d go and see all the time when I young pre kids.

I watched King Richard over the weekend, I tend to avoid biopics as I'm cynical about the usual stuff, them being incredible catered to portray someone in a certain way, the actors who do them are just looking for a more certain route to awards etc...

That said, it was an enjoyable watch (even though a lot of the above was true for this film) given I knew nothing about how the Williams sisters got started, love the music and early 90s tennis Reebok and Sergio Tacchini gear on display.

I know he's had bad press for a few years now, but Will Smith is still very enjoyable on screen.

A solid alright out of ten for me.

Holy smokes! 'scream' (2022) makes 'MI2' look like the baby of 'Casablanca' and 'Citizen Kane'. Tomatoes has it down as fresh as well. How'd you chuck something this terrible together. Incredible. Zero maniac slasher murderers out of ten.

I love the original Scream. Nothing will ever top the first one but I would recommend Scream 4. It leans into how it's a reboot better than Scream 5 did.

Order of how I rate the franchise:

1. Scream
2. Scream 4
3. Scream 2
4. Scream 5 / Scream 2022
5. Scream VI
6. Scream 3

Funnily enough been reading a lot of stuff online this week about the original scripts etc. for this and Prometheus and it seems like the movies we got in the end should have been so much better without studio intervention.

Yeah I've read about that as well. Even Prometheus starts very promising but swiftly descends.

There is a new one coming out this year though, looks like they're going back to basics.

Went cinema Friday to see Poor Things. Utterly bonkers, a bit too long, but really enjoyed it. Ruffalo is a bit hammy and his accent is weird, but I liked his performance

Watched American Fiction yesterday. Very funny satire, even if maybe the family stuff is not so interesting. Good performance from Jeffrey Wright. Nice to see him in a leading role

Saw American Fiction yesterday too.

I totally agree it's a ok film but Wright is excellent as usual

Looking forwards to this. It's something I believe has been crying out for DECADES for a movie/tv adaptation. It's got ultraviolence, wit, sarcasm and an epic-scale future-war adventure which hails from the "classic" 2000ad comic era of the early 80's. A shame the late sadly-missed Bill Paxton isn't around to provide one of the voices for Rogue's "dead" bio-chip comrades.... Always thought him, Arnie and Michael Ironside would have been perfect for the three voice roles of Helm, Gunnar and Bagman.

Still have high hopes though. It'd be a welcome switch from the US Marvel/Disney juggernaught and offer a fresh exciting new franchise that could be a brilliant movie in the right hands, with the right approach.... If it's as half as good as the Karl Urban "DREDD" picture from 2012...it'll be boss.
