Yes, I too thought ol' Chris looked a bit tired in this one, as if someone had taken his batteries out. For some reason I kept wanting him to go full Pacino-style and give it a good "hoo ha “

I thought he was a really odd choice for the part tbh, which is a bit of an strange one, as every other cast member was perfect for their role.

Just out from Dune 2.

Absolutely brilliant piece of cinema - exhilarating, ambitious, beautiful, brutal. The writing is intelligent and faithful and doesn't under-estimate the audience, visual effects are staggering, sound design and soundtrack just incredible, cast are first class, even the smaller roles. If I had any very minor gripe, the editing is a little swift here and there and some characters are a bit underused, but I'd be seriously picking nits.
Just a quick one on the cast, Chalamet nails the transition from callow heir to conflicted messiah brilliantly, and I loved the opposition between him and Jessica. However, unexpected shout for Zendaya. I wasn't super convinced by her in the first one, thought she was basically fine but I didn't get much of a sense of her character. She's absolutely brilliant in this one, crafting Chani into a fierce, touching, cynical and loyal wife and warrior. Really surprised, she's terrific.

It’s a stunning piece of film making and deserves more than one viewing.

Just like the first, an instant sci-fi classic.

He really is.

He’s going to take some beating.

The scenes where they rode the sandworms in particular was just incredible.
Yep, and the attacks on the harvesters, and the sheer weird of Giedi Prime, but the human moments are just as searing.

Paul's defiance of Jessica"s manipulation and Chani's realisation that Paul will not marry her, and why, are fantastically played

Safe House (1998)

Surprisingly buff Patrick Stewart is an ageing, paranoid retiree in the early stages of Alzheimer's convinced that his life is in danger. Weird mish mash of comedy bits, drama around the progressively debilitating effects of Alzheimer's and conspiracy thriller. Bit of an odd one but Stewart carries it all well enough.

You also get Jean Luc Picard's arse in the shower and the vague silhouette of his old chap if that's your bag.

Expendables 4

A complete waste of Iko Uwais and Tony Jaa that even Jason Statham can't save. Has a straightaway obvious plot twist, a straightaway obvious mystery character and Eddie Hall in an excruciatingly bad but mercifully short role. Special effects seemingly shot on an iPhone and rendered on a Raspberry Pi.

Makes concessions to the cause of equality by casting Megan Fox but then seemingly gives her fourth billing behind her cleavage, make-up and nipples. Because that's how military mercenaries dress. There is another female Expendable but her main contribution seems to be trying to watch Randy Couture urinate.

Manages to be comfortably worse than Expendables 3 which is quite the achievement.

Just seen Dune 2.

Thought it was great, visually stunning for the most part with one major exception (a shot from above the charging Fremen as they run into the Sardaukar, which was quite bad CGI) that stuck out quite a lot given how superb the rest was. There were also a few bits that suggested missing bits - the most glaring one was Chani showing up on the ornithopter (after Paul had taken the water of life), but there were a couple of others.

I do disagree with some of the comments about it being a great cast - as said already Walken was really weird in it, he seemed to be playing the Emperor as almost senile or at least half retired. Chalamet and Zendaya also really didnt have much of a chemistry either, and I never thought I would say this but Sting was a better Feyd-Rautha than Butler was - for most of it the latter appeared to be doing a bad impression of Skarsgard. Positives though were Ferguson, Pugh and especially Bardem.

Overall I thought the first one was a better film, but this was still great and I look forward to the third.
