Last Film You Watched

Godzilla Minus One

I've never been a big fan of the Godzilla films (only ever seen some of the american ones from the 90s and onwards) as big CGI monsters fighting's never really appealed to me, but this was an exception. No surprise that the good one's Japanese.

The characters carried the film and got me invested, but the monster design's also the best I've ever seen in this series. I was also pleased to see the absolute carnage inflicted on the city. I couldn't help but laugh at it all. Especially having sat through Troll on Netflix last year where nothing happened after the monster reached the city.

I'll gladly ignore some dodgy CGI here and there due to a relatively low budget, when the rest of the film delivers like this. 8/10

Watched it on a wonderful blu-ray with zero bonus material.
Yes it a brill movie, I was really surprised by it - I think the period setting did wonders for it as well. Setting in in post WWII Japan really give it some context.

Heretic tonight was good fun, Hugh carries no threat at all, but the premise was good, and it flowed well. Gets a bit batshit as it went on with lots left to explain, but even still a decent watch
I enjoyed it too, mate...

I thought that Grant played the part of a creep a little too well, if you know what I mean.

Do they stay true to Godzilla's backstory and finally reveal his origins in this one, mate?

As in, why he's so angry, and hell-bent on destruction all the time?

Mufasa: The Lion King, thought the visuals where great. The story was just as expected. A solid 7.

One thing that was funny throughout for my partner and I was their destination Milele is similar to the Hindi slang word for suck my d*** 😅😅
The Lion King... Pfffft, what a load of tosh, mate!

I prefer the alternative version, that's only about 10 minutes long because it's more realistic...

This was on Film4 last night - Old.

I wish I hadn’t bothered.

A group of random strangers, try and escape from a seemingly idyllic cove, that somehow massively accelerates the ageing process.

Another load of utter plop from M.Night Shaymalan.

Rufus Sewell must’ve been skint when he agreed to do this.
To quote M. Night Shaymalan:
What A Twist.gif
When watching one of his movies, you can literally play: 'What time in the movie is the plot twist coming' with your mates.

Since 'Glass' & 'Split' in 2019, his last 4 films have been:
  • Old;
  • Knock at the Cabin Door;
  • Watchers; &
  • Trap.
Trap was the only decent one... The other 3, you just know that there's going to be a ridiculous plot twist at some point. 😤

Christmas week, Sunday evening fare. Let's have a look see what's on...

The quite awful 'Jurassic World Dominion' is on itv at 8:20pm. This wretch should shepherd you towards either...
'Die hard' channel 4 9pm
'Speed' itv4 9pm
'Lucky number slevin' Great! movies 9pm
'Limitless' Legend 9pm
'Drive' Great! Mystery 9:15pm
'It's a wonderful life' That's TV 2 9pm
'Rush hour 3' Dmax 9pm
'Ferris Bueller's Day off' E4 10pm
'Patriot games' channel 4 11:35pm (after die hard)
'Quadrophenia' bbc2 11:45pm
'Tenet' bbc1 11:50pm (red dwarf and bill & ted both did this idea much more clearly and funnier)

Unless some miracle occurs in the spurs game, that's probably me signed off for tv this evening.

Trading Places an all time top 10 comedy for me. Like Coming to America, but particularly loved Don Ameche and Ralph Bellamy’s cameos in it
One of the reasons I wanted to watch Trading Places again (as well as the obvious one!) was someone on here was talking about whether it had dated in terms of language and tropes.
I didn’t think so but on re watching some of it is a little ‘of it’s era’ language wise, but over all still stands up well imo.

On Randolph & Mortimers cameo on Coming to America, my Mrs had never realised the connection before last night, have watched both multiple times 🤦🏻‍♂️🤣

Oh yes there’s definitely stuff in there I don’t think they’d get away with now, but aside from 48 hours and Beverly Hills Cop it’s about as prime an Eddie Murphy as you’ll get and when John Landis was at the top of his game. A lot has been sanitised since then.
