Last Film You Watched

And so used the music to represent the threat of the shark. Just to be clear, I was on the sharks side in the sequel, didn't like a single one of those kids off jollying about where they knew they shouldn't have been. And three was shot for 3D and was just awful.
Part three was a comedy with some of the post production like the shark coming towards the command centre (link below). The Revenge was a disgrace to the name.

I seem to do most of my movie watching on planes and just got back from long trip.

I saw Civil War, an A24 release, and it hit a little to close to home as an American. Basically takes place in present day America and there is a brutal civil war going on. Some scenes were pretty darn grim, and it was a really well scripted/well-acted film. It was way more violent than I expected, given the blurb about the film. You could quibble with the overall premise, but the screen play and cinematography was amazing. Highly recommend.

I saw one of the Mad Max films "Furiosa" (or something...the prequel one). Totally fun and exciting and overall great. Good stuff.

I rewatched for the first time in like 25-30 years "Stop Making Sense" the Talking Heads film. My mom took me to see this in the theater in 1984 (it was released in "art theatres" back then), and the new version is wholly remastered. I have long thought that the first five Talking Heads albums were probably the best any band could sequentially release (and this includes the Beatles, Floyd, Stones, etc., and is only rivaled by Zeppelin) and this film was just great. David Byrne is a genius and he has such a (deliberately) nonsensical stage presence, but despite his antics on stage you really see how talented he is as a musician and the high attention to professionality and stage production that he puts into the show. If you like the Talking Heads (their early stuff up til Stop Making Sense) give this a watch or rewatch. Fabulous.

I saw Furiosa recently, too, and was very pleasantly surprised. Cool movie and fit right in with the franchise. A couple of months ago I rewatched all the original Mad Max films. The first one came out when I was a kid. It was right around the time of Star Wars, Star Trek the Motion Picture, and Alien.

Seeing them now as an adult I find myself liking them more. Where the franchise went with Fury Road, which I thought was cool, compared to where it started with the very first film is night and day. The original film is a lot slower and character building where it established why Max is who he is and how he lost everything. But you can’t have all the follow-on films without the original one and the concept and vision of the director.

Deja Vu. 2006

Had a lot of fun with this. It's a fast moving, Tony Scott/Bruckheimer high concept flick - all agents, and terrorists and races against time, but with an added element.
It's well made, aged well, DW is top notch, the lesser spotted Val Kilmer is a cool senior agent, and it seems (1 watch only) to hang together and largely obey it's own internal logic.

Worth a look. Disney +

Agreed. Denzel is awesome. I watched the first 15 minutes of "Training Day" (again for the 20th time) and he is just genius. Will check this out...thought I suspect I've seen it long ago and forgot about it (??).

You can't type that and not post this:

I could talk Jaws and early Spielberg all day.
Another image that really stands out to me, is from a deleted scene. The death of the young boy Alex at the beach.
He nicks a shot from his own film (besides the oft used shooting star motif) when they go after Ben Gardner's boat, uses the light in the same way as a year or two later in 'Close encounters'. Almost identical. The light vs the boat hull and windows and the lights vs the car and windows. Dreyfuss there for both.
