Last Film You Watched

I have sensed that you hold modern film in contempt

My top 3 films of all time:

1. oldboy (2003)
2. Excalibur (1981)
3. There Will Be Blood (2008)

I might've got the years slightly wrong but there's two modern films there. Not sure if you'd consider them 'hipster', but they just happen to be my favourite films. Perfect in every way. I suppose they all have one thing in common: one flawed but powerful man determinedly following his destiny.

Let's drop the hipster thing and get geeky instead (hang on, is geeky hip now?). What are your top 3 films of all time?

I like how it raised fundamental questions such as would you do Mena Suvari in that situation or at all really, and whether her nipples came with pineapple or not.

it was a great scene that, one of cinema's finest. So understated, but so true. I've experienced it myself. Had a quite religious but very attractive girl in my bed probably about 10 year ago now (she was 20 or so)...we got busy, then she tells me she's a virgin, with big uncertain puppydog eyes, telling me subconsciously that if we do it her life will change forever.

I couldn't do it, man. She really was quite religious and is supposed to be abstinent until marriage. I told her good luck.

She wasn't the one, lads...so no regrets.

I'm not sure I'd have enough rose petals to fill the bath so would probably have to improvise with chopped up spuds, carrots and onions and whatnot.

Oh, yous not talking about when she tells him she's a virgin? Suddenly all that sexiness drains away from her and she becomes this nervous young girl.

The dream sequence with her in the rose bath is very stylish, great scene that too.

Watched disconnect last night, film came out in 2012 was kind of odd it was like three stories in one film all with the same 'message' not a classic and wouldn't watch again, at a push I would give it a generous 6/10

by that rationale all films only have ten points to them, and if not your rating system is flawed, as for inconsequential, its a film, chill out.

I don't find his films or this one devoid of meaning, in fact I find them very touching without being obvious in their heart string tugging. I have sensed that you hold modern film in contempt before anyway, such as when 'under the skin', a genuine attempt to break the mold, was mentioned, in which you reverted to the book version straight away, the safe haven of the hipster

Think Wes Anderson is great. Nice, easy watches. The majority of the films i like aren't so easy so its pretty refreshing.

Being 'hipster' isn't a tangable thing.

what do you mean, mate?

here in Berlin, and also in London's Shoreditch/Brixton, the whole "hipster" thing is an obsession...from both sides: those practicing it, those ironically practicing it, and those criticising it. It makes for great comedy like this meme, and this video. But then again it encourages hipster-watch (like bird-spotting, but more critical), meaning even mentioning you've read the book of a film being discussed is considered 'hipster', which is just silly.

Hipster is a look, a lifestyle, an attitude. They're like posh hippies, and are really into 'art' (see how Lady Gaga often confuses art with mere style).

One example: a hipstery girl I met at a Sonic Youth concert looked textbook: that nerdy pretty girl face with big-rimmed plastic glasses. We talked for a while, about music 'n stuff, and I mentioned I make techno music on drum machines. She said she just bought a Korg Electribe (i know, mate) and asked me to come round and show her how to use it. So I went round and showed her how to sequence, from scratch, some banging techno with a fat rolling bassline, shaping the dynamics of the sound so it mixed properly. But half the time her gaze was averted towards her open bedroom door, waiting for her housemates and their friends to pop by: "wow, are you making techno? That's really cool! Yeah, I know!".

After an hour she had to pop out to an art gallery, where she probably enthused to people that she makes techno. She sketches emo-looking women with tattoos too (think Jane from Breaking Bad).

That's a hipster. They do exist. Harmless, really. Nowt wrong with it. But they are culturally pretty vacant, so that's where the criticism comes from.

Can't abide Wes Anderson films. Just a series of quirky front and side shots accompanied by offbeat music. Ugh, all that quirk.
Well this one was quirky and had little story but looked fantastic, was beautifully shot and Germany in winter looked incredible . My beer glasses helped :). The wife fell asleep after half an hour!
