Last Film You Watched

Dumb & Dumber. Haven't seen this for a long time, it really is a very funny film. Stands the test of time well, some fantastic set-pieces (most notably the mini-motorbike bit, with the frozen snot-streams, and the 'extra gloves'), with some genuinely heart-warming bits thrown in too. Fabulous.

Four Christmases. Vince Vaughan in his usual monotone shouty character but it's a decent Christmas flick. Passes the time.

The Holiday - the missus stuck this on for a bit last night. I've seen it before a few times (lord knows why), its horribly naff. I expect the yanks simply lapped this up by the bucket-load. Cameron Diaz's rubbery face gets positively nauseating after a while.

'The Conjuring' - has been raved about, but it's a collection of pieces you've seen before. Although the clapping game bit on the stairs was an amusing and original frisson.

Hobbit pt I - Overly long, overly slow, overly nothing like the book.
Hobbit pt II - Overly long, overly slow, overly nothing like the book. At least they're consistent. Both are a CGI spaghetti soup, but the seond part is more so.

Doing a bit of reading around it seems that 'The Babadook' is the stand out horror of the year. And by some margin.

Hush - properly tense, low budget British psychological horror about a couple's run in with a headcase on the M1. Like a cross between Halloween, Duel and the Bourne movies. Was directed by Mark Tonderai who used to do Radio One's essential mix before it went Pete Tong.

I like the sound of that, thanks for the heads up. I'll give it a whirl.

'The Babadook' was alright, bit of fight club in there, swirl of poltergeist, topped with toasted and chopped hellraiser, as well as a few tricks in the genre that an awful lot of films use that I don't know the origins of. And erm, served in a souvenir sixth sense bowl.

Next up 'Oculus'.
