Last Film You Watched

Shane Meadows films are very gritty and " British " mate.

If you've never seen one before have a look for - Dead Mans Shoes.

An incredible film considering the miniscule budget. The ending is incredibly powerful and sad. It'll stay with you for quite a while afterwards, so I'd advise watching it alone. Paddy Considine gives an incredible performance in the lead.
I think that film wrote the definition for the word 'powerful'. Sheesh, I'm feeling sad just thinking about it.

That first bit in the pub

'what the fk you lookin at??'
'you yer c***!'

Utterly terrifying.

latest in phase of rewatching 90's films which haven't seen since they first came out: Seven

Still a strong 8/10 detective thriller. No real new surprises or insights on the rewatch, other than Morgan Freeman is even more commanding in his role than I remember with Brad Pitt a little less sympathetic.

Most of yous have probably seen it but if not, deffo worth a watch.

Its worse than those two....plot is so limited and feels just like a vehicle to showcase products and scenery really...

If you want a proper Bond film try The November Man....

You know your Bonds. We get it this week.

Might go see The Martian instead and as a Bond fan for ever, it kills me to say that.

....Bridge of Spies. Very interesting true story involving a US lawyer at the height of the Cold War. Reminded me of Atticus Finch crusade in To Kill a Mockingbird. Enjoyable and watchable.

How's yer Hitchcock?

Just watched Rear Window: silly, dated and underwhelming. And I like a bunch of old films so wasn't bothered by its 50's production. It was very well filmed and had an intriguing setup but that's it. Not a spoiler to say the film doesn't have a twist, but it sorely needed one. Some amateurish mistakes (something I don't normally notice), plot holes, unconvincing relationship dynamic between the two leads and a tame-arse ending.

This Hitchcock is often voted among the greatest films of all time, the last few dozen user reviews on IMDB praise it to the high heavens.

Like Interstellar, I guess this is one of those rare examples where I just don't connect with what everyone is raving about. 4/10 is fair in my book.

I enjoyed Psycho, thought Birds was clever & exciting despite a very slow build up, dimly remember Vertigo being alright. Got North by Northwest, Rope and Frenzy on my shelf still...hoping they're gonna be at least entertaining.

Did you know......

Hitchcock planned to film his materpiece about a serial killer going around town and was going to be shot on hand held cameras to capture the live feel of the whole thing.

He was turned down by the studio

...I'm a big James Stewart fan so Rear Window is an ok for me. Possibly my favourite Hitchcock film is Lifeboat. The whole film only contains the occupants of the Lifeboat, any idea how Hitchcock managed to fit in his cameo appearance?

in Rear Window he was in the pianist's flat.

I thought James Stewart played his role as well as could be asked for, to be fair. Was more the writing in the second half that went to pot.

Lifeboat sounds interesting.

Unsure if it classes as a 'proper' movie but watched that Ronaldo Film earlier. Definitely worth a watch, thought it was a good insight into Cristiano and showed you a side of him that you dont really get to see. Like i say, worth a watch.
