Last Film You Watched

Watched that a while ago....whilst im not a massive Hanks fan he did ok in this...

Problem was there was no tension in the movie...im not sure if thar was purposeful but Hanks didnt come across as too beliveable in his role if he was trying to portray real life/death emotion....

If that makes sense?

....Bridge of Spies. Very interesting true story involving a US lawyer at the height of the Cold War. Reminded me of Atticus Finch crusade in To Kill a Mockingbird. Enjoyable and watchable.

I had doubts about Mendes directing Spectre, but he got me with the first teaser trailer and now I'm absolutely looking forward to it.

Right this will probably go against the masses but Spectre for me failed miserably as a film. Too many parts of the story either didn't flow or was simply rushed without doing justice. 003 for me. Worse bond film I think I have ever seen although the Timmy ones are not that fresh in my mind

SPECTRE last night. Classic Bond action thriller, really enjoyable if you can switch your 'sensible' button off. Superb casting of Phil Neville as Blofeld, genius.

Spectre....decent watch, but never reaches the heights of Skyfall....bit disappointed with Waltz' character...no real suspence in the movie.

Don't bother with Spectre, wait until it comes on tv.

It's like a two and a half hour pop video or advert for Omega, Aston Martin etc.

Utter gash.

Stick that on before / after spectre mate and then compare....trust me :)

Spectre, crap, Since casino royale which was brilliant the bond films have been getting progressively worse, theyre so overated

Swerve it? We talking Skyfall bad or Quantum bad?

saw it in the cinema tonight with low expectations but enjoyed it! Good 8/10, about on-par with Skyfall, better than Quantum, with Casino Royal still number 1.

Problems: bit cringey the whole reminders of the past and everyone's relationship with each other, and midway got a bit slow as the main Bond girl was boring (it sadly wasn't Monica Belucci but some blonde).

But if you can forgive that then the rest is fun!

Did you try November man? With Pierce Brosnan?

How's yer Hitchcock?

Just watched Rear Window: silly, dated and underwhelming. And I like a bunch of old films so wasn't bothered by its 50's production. It was very well filmed and had an intriguing setup but that's it. Not a spoiler to say the film doesn't have a twist, but it sorely needed one. Some amateurish mistakes (something I don't normally notice), plot holes, unconvincing relationship dynamic between the two leads and a tame-arse ending.

This Hitchcock is often voted among the greatest films of all time, the last few dozen user reviews on IMDB praise it to the high heavens.

Like Interstellar, I guess this is one of those rare examples where I just don't connect with what everyone is raving about. 4/10 is fair in my book.

I enjoyed Psycho, thought Birds was clever & exciting despite a very slow build up, dimly remember Vertigo being alright. Got North by Northwest, Rope and Frenzy on my shelf still...hoping they're gonna be at least entertaining.
North By Northwest is an absolute cracker. One of my all time favourites.

Fulfilled a small lifetime ambition last night and saw Alien on the big screen.
Bare in mind, I've seen this film so often I could probably sit down and write the script.
I've got two copies on my shelf, and still if I'm channel surfing and its on I'll go 'ooh cool Alien is on.'
I was completely rapt, but I went with a friend who'd never seen it. She was absolutely squirming at the facehugger attack and Brett's death, and proper jumped when Dallas bought it.
Nearly 40 years old and it still does the job.
Stone cold classic.

Love this film, easily the best sci-fi horror and clearly the best Alien series movie.

I much prefer the hard sci-fi feel and realistic crew interactions over the macho-bravado of Aliens, which has dated badly at least in that respect.

Watched it yesterday. Had low expectations after reading lots of disappointing reviews, but I enjoyed it. Not amazing, not great, but not bad either.

But I'm not sure about the script. The whole backstory of Blofeld, the pointles torture scene (had it any effects on Bond?) and the scene with Monica Bellucci seemed pretty pointless. Too many writers involved?

7/10

aye, agree with your criticisms...and Bond wasn't in the slightest affected, that scene i think was just to tease the torture crowd...getting a bit old now as Le Chiffre and Silva also sat Bond on a chair and did similar.

Time for a new Bond now: get rid of the fanboyisms while keeping the Fleming template, and focus the drama on slow-burning tension.

Fassbender? Elba would be great but I think he's a tad too old if we're wanting at least 3 films from the next Bond.

I would like Craig to do another to be honest. I like him. They'll throw money at him til he says yes. But I hope they get proper writers for the next one and give them time to find a convincing plot, they had to change the script while shooting Spectre I think, not a good sign...

For me theyve started to take the bond films back to being over the top, unbelievable films and go way to heavy on the product placements and poor storylines

he's looking too old now, physically fine but his boat...

and if he's not arsed anymore, then so be it. Spectre worked perfectly as his swansong...deffo 2nd best Bond after you-know-who.

Think he said the same after Skyfall and then changed his mind again. The producers probably want to wait how the box office turns out and decide afterwards. You mean Connery?

Yep that's also true. They wanted to make a realistic Bond starting with Casino Royale. Is there any realism in Spectre? Storyline was pretty poor, I agree.
