Every now and again a film comes along that surprises you, this is one of them.
Watched it last night on Film4 fully expecting a standard Muslim bashing stereotypical action film about US Marines in Afghanistan. Wrong.
Based on a true story of a small unit of US Navy Seals sent to kill a notorious Taliban leader in the Afghan mountains, that goes horribly wrong leaving only one survivor - Mark Wahlberg. ( who had a big input into the film ).
Superb film, bordering on " anti war " and the last quarter of the film when he is found dying, taken in, saved and sheltered by an Afghani villager, despite the knowledge that the Taliban will torture and wipe out the whole village if he is found is truly moving.
At the end they ran through personal photos of the soldiers and their families, plus photos of the Afghani villager being reunited with the soldier he saved, which had me in tears.
Fantastic film and it'll be on Film4 again, as they always repeat them.
Agree mate, watched this a couple of months back and loved it.
Not in the same vein but Kajaki which is on Netflix was decent too, Afghan war film without really being a war film. Another true story and it grips you once it gets going.
