I loved Batman Begins and The Dark Knight. I was an original fan of Nolan doing Batman Begins before it became a massive sensation! Not trying to sound "underground" just trying to say that I really did love the Nolan/Batman mixture when a lot of people were still so-so about it.

But I just think he has insulted me by diverging from what he did in Batman Begins and still did in The Dark Knight. As much as you can say that The Dark Knight Rises ties in with Batman Begins because they show clips from it/reference it heavily, stylistically and thematically they are still very different films. It just became an inane action film with really good actors.

Catwoman, like Lucius Fox became, are just narrative devices that allow the script to "cheat" the story.

You're definitely in the minority mate, maybe you need to see it again. Shouldn't be too hasty in dismissing it.

They are just bringing a 1960s superhero into the 21st century.

I still really enjoyed the film, but essentially I do agree with what your saying, having catwoman was very schumacher-esqe, and just so out of charachter for Nolan, I wouldnt say he sold out the values of the first two films, but he certainley let his trilogy down a little bit putting her in, the ending was too contrived, and the film, much like the shawshank redemption or the series of life on mars, would have been far stronger had it ended 5 mins earlier. I can live with it though, and still thought it was very good.

Dunno why you two are moaning about catwoman, she was decent I thought in fact I reckon she was one of the better characters in the film. What was wrong with her exactly?
They don't even say the word 'catwoman' in the entire film.

one of the things i liked about the trilogy, was the effort Nolan made to explain why batman is as bad ass as he is, he doesnt just get angry and become a boss fighter. Catwoman just turns up an batters loads of trained killers, is an expert on batmans rather complicated bike, her whole character was cheesy, its lazy, and out of keeping with the rest of the films

Do you really need the backstory on how she learned to fight? Is it strange that batman can master the bat/tumbler/bat-bike on his first go at it?

i dont need it no, like i said, i still like the film, and dont want to come across as one of them film tits, but it would have added depth and made her character more 3 dimensional, batman has these things at his disposal, I'd assume he can familiarise himself with them, he also has contact with fox to help him, maybe less so with the bat, but like i said Nolan got a little loose in some parts of the 3rd film

Nolan didn't explain The Joker, but that is an intrinsic quality of the character of The Joker—he is inexplicable. Whereas Catwoman has always been a character that's had an interesting past and back-story. The Nolan brothers are just very lazy writers. I am definitely with you on the ending too, it was all pretty self-explanatory and I felt like I was being beaten with an abridged, hard-cover, Batman encyclopedia.

I know I'm in the minority. But when the majority think that The Shawshank Redemption is the greatest film of all time, I definitely know being in the minority isn't a bad thing. You will also find that many people assumed they liked this film even before they saw it, take the abuse one reviewer took on Rotten Tomatoes when he posted a negative review of the film before anyone else had even seen it.

Funnily enough, just looking at Rotten Tomatoes I noticed there are 5 "rotten" reviews in the Top Critics category, four of which are Australian. So maybe it's a cultural thing haha.

It's nowhere near the worst film I've ever seen (it's definitely in the top half), but it is definitely not as good as everyone is claiming it to be.

Finally saw it yesterday. The 1st 2 were very very good. DKR, meh not awful and better than most super hero movies but not awful either. However you can only rehash the same storyline (lets burn Gotham to the ground) for so long before it gets a little tired.

Plus a couple little things let the movie down. 1st of all filming it in Pittsburgh, never ever should have happened. Why does the DARK KNIGHT RISES need a tax break? Now Pittsburgh is a pretty cool city I grew up there, but its not Chicago and/or London and should have never been used for Gotham.

You can't make an awesome scene like this in Pittsburgh. The city is just too small http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mx31jPUFh5I&feature=related

Plus I never really understood why there had to be WWE throwdown between cops and bain's men in the middle of the city. Did anyone ever hear of guns?

Then the betrayal by his gf at the end seemed deus ex machina-esque.

Catwoman suprisingly wasn't the bad part of the movie.

What would you change? Literally can't think of a reasonable alternative to that.

How on earth is this a problem!? Who cares where it's filmed as long as it fits? (Filming it in London would look ridiculous).

They did have guns. They used it during the scene.

*SPOILERS*

How? It's explained that Ras Al Ghul had a child, batman seemed to think it was Bane but the reveal or big twist was that it was Miranda (Talia, which is in the comics).

Poking holes in a solid film for absolutely no reason.
