We need to increase our revenues in order to remain even vaguely competitive not only in the transfer market, but most importantly to meet wage demands of the types of players we wish to see playing for us.

Without increased revenues we will be a club that buys youngsters, hopefully develops them but inevitably sells them before they've reached their full potential for Everton.

In short we need new owners who invest capital into the business to generate income in the future. Without that we will be a feeder club at best for those higher up the food chain, at worst our future in the Premier League will be in doubt.

I understand that, but in a highly speculative mode here, WHAT IF? we didn't have to? there will be some players who will leave no matter what sure, but considering our selling first teamers record, what if we could break the mould? All these youngsters signing, what if our scouts all turned up gems? what if because of the TV money the club could adopt a higher wage for top stars, invest lower sure but as long as we were signing young players and developing them in the background we could (a bit like reality) move these youngsters into the squad as they get older whilst shifting older players on. Not too far fetched to think our signing young players who are first team ready within a year or two, after all lukaku/del/besic/stones/galloway to name a few

And what if whilst we were doing all of this, we were successful on the pitch as well? Granted yes the revenue/money ineeds to be increased and better managed in any scenario, but in the above scenario, massively fantistical sure, but in the above scenario, does any of that include the stadium or is it purely the work of the team to be succesful?

@The Esk
Wouldn't you agree that we need serious investment for a new stadium, not because we want to be like all the other clubs having a nice shiny bauble to polish for the Sky cameras, but more because the dear old Grand Old Lady is unfortunately very tired... and whilst we love her dearly, sooner or later, someone from those nice (?) people who issue fit-for-purpose/H&S certificates is gonna go "tut tut tut" while shaking their head and putting a big fat X in the "do not renew" box ?
My worry would be that someone from English heritage might come along and slap listed status on the Bullens.....

The H&S issue isn't really an issue imo. Goodison is tired but it's still a World away from some of the knackered old grounds in use in the lower leagues.

My fear though would be that whoever issues such certificates etc might be concerned about continuing to grant a capacity of circa 40,000.
If it were to be reduced to say 36,000 there would be a knock-on effect upon revenues that would almost inevitably impact upon ticket prices :(

That scenario isn't sustainable though, you might achieve CL status once (as we did in '04) but maintaining that level of success without matching the investment of your peers is near impossible, as you'd have to have a scouting network / academy that was way superior to the competition, and continually churned out gems.

I don't know to be honest how close or not we are to falling foul of the requirements of our safety certificates but I am with you that eventually that day will come.

Regardless as demonstrated by the revenues generated across the park Goodison as is, is no longer fit for commercial purposes.

My post was largely on the what if side but all it takes is investing a la arsenal have over the years. You say it isn't sustainable but arsenal lived for years off it when building their stadium, in fact how many of their first team players were signed young and though through the ranks or spotted and signed before anyone else? That would be all it took to keep it going, in the real world it may not be a sustainable thing but in theory for a club who don't sell their star players often why isn't this possible to follow?

Think Arsenal's position is down to the genius that is Wenger rather than any sustainable business model. Without Wenger it could never have happened in the way it has.

To be fair to Martinez, would a different manager have brought Galloway deloufeu lukaku besic along into the first team for us with a series of potential first team players in the background?

In the simplest sense here, Martinez has been pretty spot on with young players so far, in a smaller look as well (arsenals youth set up is far bigger than ours)

Thanks for this. Saved me having to write it out myself!
