The takeover will probably follow the pattern of our transfers.

First the rumour.
Then the story from barely credible sites.
Then somebody like Andy Hunter moves the story to genuine
Deal Agreed, just paperwork to be completed.
Hitch in the deal, other parties getting involved.
Typical bloody Everton.
Deal completed , fume over
Why didn't we get somebody, anybody else, better for less money?

Any Chinese consortium could only acquire Everton (assuming matters got this far) with the explicit approval of the Chinese Government . They would never allow such a prestigious and high profile acquisition to take place without ensuring that adequate funding is in place. In fact I can almost guarantee that a state owned institution would be part of any Chinese bid.

On that basis, do you think a Chinese take-over could be more advantageous to us than an American one? I know this is sweeping generalisation stuff, but I would be interested in your opinion on this.

We could become a feeder club for them.

It's impossible to say mate without knowledge of the American and Chinese plans should they both exist.

The Premier League is the world's most desirable sporting real estate which has attracted Russian, American and Middle Eastern investment. To date it has not attracted Chinese investment. If it were to do so then I can guarantee that the Chinese Government would want the Chinese investment to be on a par with all the other global investments made in the Premier League.

That doesn't mean they would throw insane amounts at us if we were the club they acquired but it would mean that there would be sufficient investment for a world class stadium, a competitive squad and global sponsorship deals.

If the above became reality then it is difficult to see Moores and Noell being able to match that type of investment.

The above is all conjecture and not based on any specific knowledge.

Thanks for that Esk. Makes a lot of sense. I was thinking when you mentioned that they would need the tacit approval of the Chinese government for any take-over to move forward that they would not want to be associated with anything other than a successful outcome as it would become almost a matter of national pride. On that basis I think it could be a good outcome for us if they did end up making a serious offer. Not sure how I'd feel about the issues regarding Human Rights etc. in China, though.

Totally a matter of national and presidential pride. ;)

Where exactly that sits with what we all consider to be Everton's values I'm not sure. We'll all have to cross that bridge when/if we come to it.

I think this will play out until the off season as mentioned earlier. Looks like Everton is in fact taking a good look at all the other interested parties.
Happy to wait.

Haven't Man City got some sort of Chinese investment deal?

Not the same as a full takeover of course and the main backing is still from the Middle East but iirc it was a fairly large chunk of money. Perhaps a "testing of the waters" before going solo?

Edit - sorry @mightymoyes, hadn't seen your post, didn't mean to duplicate!
