League of Ireland 2024

Could Cork City and Dundalk be swapping places at the end of the season i wonder?🤔
The similarities between City last season and Dundalk this season are very noticeable tbh

Late takeovers by owners who have no clue about football
That means late transfer business
Irish Market gone by the time that transfer business is done so end up shopping abroad which leads to questionable recruitment
Club legends as managers
Can't score and can't defend

Dundalk don't have the safety net of a UCD though although I still feel that over the season Drogheda and Waterford may save them yet.
There is also no evidence that Ainscough at Dundalk is as meddlesome or is a micro manager to the degree Usher is at City. Both are clearly terrible owners though.
How Dundalk fans ever thought a guy who walked out on Kerry and left them in the lurch would be good for them, I'll never know.

Meanwhile up north in the Irish Cup Final, Cliftonville v Linfield.

This is how to win the Cup….complete with Ross Barkley celebration 😊

Delighted with Rovers' 0-0 away in Reykjavik to Vikingjur. They are clear top of the Icelandic league and Rovers had Nugent sent off for an alleged dive and therefore a second yellow. Seemed very harsh.

So including 7 minutes Injury time Rovers played with ten men for 17 minutes. Now we need to finish the job in Tallaght next week.

Was a very good draw alright, think last season Rovers went into the games especially the home leg far too confident. This time they had a proper game plan and took nothing for granted. Still nothing decided and alot of work to do but they look slow at the back so Clarke, Farrugia and Burns will be vital, would be great to have Burke back as well.

Huge night for Rovers as they play Vikingur of Reykjavik in CL qualifier.

Excellent 0-0 away on 1st leg and leading reasonably comfortably 2-0 at HT tonight. Both from Kenny with assists from Watts for both. His run for the second leaving three Vikingur players for deaf before a lovely pass to Kenny who finished sweetly.

Hopefully we keep the heads 2nd half.

Playing into the South Stand goal 2nd half where hopefully the Ultras will suck the ball Gwladys style into the net.

Worth €1.7m to Rovers if we progress, which is huge for a LOI club.
