I make no apology for going back to this ridiculous decision to treat the Villarreal game like a circus side show rather than the full and serious last chance to hone the first team for the games coming up.

pre-season is more than that... We had BIG issues last season, we still have them. Pre-Season is about getting fit but it's also about sorting the issues out, trying new things.

I mean the short passes and knock downs around the edge of the box.

His overall passing is garbage, like.

His confidence is shot to pieces, he's never been a great player by any stretch but he was certainly better than this at Wigan.

You can see him actually stiffen up when the balls played to him and his first thought is clearly "don't [Poor language removed] it up..don't [Poor language removed] it up..."

Good exercise for the young lads, playing a team that doesn't seem far from the Leeds first team. Koné is worryingly bad though. He's just in the wrong position, or caught on he backfoot every time.

With the amount of youngsters we have getting experience out there I do not expect anything from this game in terms of a result. The only disappointing aspect of this game is our senior players should be leading by example but they are not. We need to sit back and watch the youngsters and look for positives from them. Lets not be too critical as we really only have 2 realistic 1st team players out there against a Championship side and yet we are not losing.

pre-season is more than that...

pre-season is a training exercise, mainly to get the squad 'match fit'. If we had an abundance of more players that needed to learn our style, then it'd be something different. But we don't.

It's about match sharpness. And we're getting it, we've already played more games than last pre-season, with our full squad.
