Leeds United

Have a soft spot for Leeds, a couple of my friends support them which actually isn't unusual in Ireland

My Dad's job moved us from Liverpool to Leeds in 1951 when I was 15. Devastated that I couldn't watch Everton on a Saturday. A few years later, I was signed by Leeds United to play for their Colts side. Raich Carter was manager at the time and John Charles was the big star player. The main stand burned down in 1956 but I had an alibi as I was doing my National Service in Singapore and Malaya! Went back to Elland Road after demob but they weren't interested in keeping me on. Remember Don Revie being appointed manager and building the Leeds team by means of astute buying (Bobby Collins from Everton was the best buy ever, followed closely by Johnny Giles) and bringing a lot of young lads through the system.
Once played a friendly against Leeds United. I was playing centre-forward at the time and Don Revie played centre-half for the Leeds team. He talked to me the whole game, giving lots of advice. Brilliant experience.
Everton has always been my first team but I do have many happy memories of my involvement with Leeds United and have slightly more than a 'soft spot' for them.

Never saw John Charles play but Leeds fans older than me say he was the best Leeds player of all time. We used to see him at home games walking to Elland Road ,no airs and graces had time to chat to all the fans. I know he is still a legend in Italy.

No - but I am torn
Is there a way they can both lose?
Leeds are 2nd on a list of 2 of teams I don't like...in case you hadn't guessed
The way we play must be softening your heart to Leeds. Another good performance last night, a few players missing .The more competition in the league the better for everyone. No one wants to see a repeat of manures dominance.

If, in the 1950's, John Charles had played for a top first division side and played for England instead of Wales, he would probably be referred to as the best player of all time. That's how good he was.

It was more the way Leeds got relegated and went down to league 1, staying out of the top flight for 16 years that softened my heart towards them.

Bold claim - they are getting relegated. Already look tired & their style isn’t impacting on PL the way the would have hoped. Adrenaline got them their big point at city and unlucky performance opening day but watch them fall off a cliff once the twice a week hits
