Leighton Baines - next Everton manager (but one)?

Rumoured to have leapfrogged the Galloot in the pecking order and about to become a key member of the Everton first team coaching staff. A successor to Benitez might be pushing it time-wise, but he's apparently done well as a youth development coach. I'm sure he'll be doing all his coaching badges in the next year or so if he hasn't already done them.

He's a much more credible blue to be making manager than Ferguson; Baines is serious and articulate, whereas Ferguson is all spluttering OTT passion and he lacks polish. Baines has demographics on his side too: he's a hero and role model to a younger generation of blues to the one who hero worshipped Ferguson. The new generations who probably make up the majority of Evertonians now in their 20s and 30s have dads who worshipped Ferguson; they respect his standing at the club but they dont identify with him as much as they would Baines.

A strange one from me given his record in undermining Roberto, but if I were a betting man - and notwithstanding that Usmanov/Moshiri tend to go for established industry names as managers - I wouldn't mind enquiring what odds I could get on Baines being manager well before the decade's out.

This came to me earlier when I was thinking about the absolute dogs breakfast of managerial types we've had. We are going to see a blue go out and do well at some club sometime soon and they'll be rightly in the frame for the Everton job and momentum will be with them to get that job. That's what's happened on numerous occasions with Everton and I expect it to happen again.

It wont be Ferguson; hes just chuffed to be employed with a decent salary. Rooney I dont see pulling up trees. If Benitez sees something in Baines and Baines steps up like Arteta did at City and gets the taste for the top job, he looks (in theory) to be a credible candidate for the future. That's all I'm suggesting here.
Whoever you are, please dont speak to me.

Well, RB appears to like what he's heard about Baines. He's heading into the first team coaching staff and off to the US on tour with Benitez. It's likely Benitez will have spoken to coaches at the club prior to taking over at FF (and asked around about them too).

Well, if I'm consistent with anything, it's him...so you know how I'd feel about that.

I think either of us might take the lives of the other, if it meant we could have the feeling of RM's first season back. I'm tired of the endless knife party surrounding the fan base.

I think this is a bit of nonsense - but it’s got me thinking - when was the last time ANY club made an internal appointment and it went well?

If we ever appoint an ex player they will have needed to go and prove themselves first.
Its ironical since 1963 only ex players have won us Trophies - Harry Catterick - HK - Joe Royle ...... you would think the club may have seen this pattern.........

lol

Post of the year, Dave ;)

But I shall never forgive his role as head plotter during the Roberto Wars

Has Baines been a caretaker manager at some level?

I have no regard for Ferguson or Unsworth. They were all promoted as part of some clique system, but Benitez promoting Baines to the first team squad means something for me. I dont think he suffers fools gladly and he's pretty particular who he surrounds himself with. He;s not the type to go in somewhere and just take a local hero to sit next him.

Baines might have something. He might not and I could be massively wrong. But he shapes up profile-wise as someone who could be a serious proposition as one.
Yeah I more meant the general idea rather than the quality of the ones currently in posts.

As usual I put you right on the money. You shoot straight from the hip and some people reject it as they aren’t comfortable with truths. One day they will appreciate your compassion for them. Can’t wait for Bainso as our new chief.
