What respect He bearly scraped past Japan, beat the worst brazil team in 50 years and got destroyed by france.

Yeah top respect:coffee:

That seems a little harsh.

I would be inclined to agree with the sentiment that small sample size makes it very hard to evaluate international managers. Low and del Bosque each managed to significantly dent their reputations on the basis of three matches in their World Cup title defenses. Was that bad luck, solely on the players or bad management? I don't know that there are easy answers there. I'd say the managers in both cases shoulder at least some of the blame on the basis of their squad selections.

I'll say this for Martinez - he made the right subs against Japan and he put together a game plan that beat Brazil. He also significantly misfired on solving the Meunier yellow card accumulation puzzle. I think he deserves credit and blame in equal measure. But when we're evaluating all of three knockout stage matches (the gimmes and the sub game in the group stage, and the exhibition for third place don't really count for much), there's room for alternative interpretations.

Stop trying go funnel the conversation away. you’re wrong about the offers. This inaccuracy changes the whole complexion of the points you try to make of Baines, because it changes him from charlatan to being loyal to the club.

Roberto Martinez doesn’t evolve as a manager, with the same mistakes costing him time and time again. He’s costing Belgiums golden generation big time
lollollol

United came in for him under moyes. Or do you believe that nobody but moyes came in for the best left back in the leauge?
Moyes was the reason United went for him. Do you think SAF would have chosen to go for Baines?

Good Lord.

Can actually agree with that bit - he was about 50% more effective when Pienaar was with him.

"Leighton is one of the best left-backs in European football". R. Martinez
Martinez thought Alacarez was one of the best CBs in the world. It's just what Bobby did to give average players confidence.

Nonsense. In my years of watching Bristol City, they got a few promotions (way more relegations mind), won the Freight Rover trophy, but they have club legends who won jack.
...then they did win a trophy and (for the level they're at) should be regarded as legends. We cant say that about Baines.

Show me a worse Brazil side then please, that was less effective
Dear me. There's been worse Brazilian teams at the last WC for one.

Dont be so churlish. He masterminded a win over the Samba Boys - a favourite for the WC.

I won’t lie Baines is the best player Iv seen in an Everton shirt for ages in relation to his position.

He really was great for those prime years.
