...interesting, I think he looks in terrific condition and he feels he’s good enough to play for a season or two. I get the impression Ancelotti likes him a lot but Baines is considering offers from elsewhere.

I reckon he signs an extension or retires tbh. Not convinced he'll be considering a move.

It all depends whether he wants to play I think. Ultimately if he stays and Digne stays fit his game time is limited. If he wants to play he really needs to go to a bottom half team who he'll be first choice for. If he's happy playing the odd game here and there he'll stay. I hope he doesn't retire as he has another couple of years in him even if its not quite the level we need. He would definitely be good enough to be back up next season and I hope he is as we have enough gaps as it is.

Oviedo only ever played when Baines was injured, in fact I distinctly remember Martinez refusing to drop Baines even when he was in poor form.
Funny that even the wonderful manager himself Martinez considered playing Baines at DM. Arguably a position with more defensive duties than a modern day full back.

Depends on what else he`s doing at the club too.

If he`s doing his badges, same as Seamus, there could be the promise of a back room job when he retires ?

Then you throw his family into the mix, if they`re happy and settled and the kids are at good schools, that could play a part too.

I was thinking of this when it was to hot to sleep the other night. Going totally off topic but is Baines a bigger Everton Icon than Big Dunc?

I know both are totally different but as much as I love big dunc he was injured or banned a lot and Baines was quailty for a quite a while and he was to good for Everton (where we were at that time) and never moaned or asked to leave, he just kept on keeping on.

I love them both, just thought I would ask.

...personally, in terms of quality, I wouldn’t put Ferguson in the same league as Baines. I’m old and have fortunately seen the best and I never consider Ferguson to be an icon but I like Baines lots.

Baines was great servant to the club but on over 3 million a year salary for a back up so if he does'nt accept our offer which was probably less than his previous deal and the signing of the young french lad now and at worst Delph as another back up, if he decides to go to play more regular somewhere else fair play to him ;-)

Club needs to make decisions on financial business sense not on emotions ;-)

Was great at his peak, time catches up with a everyone. He might want to play week in week out at a lower level. No problem with that.
