You said (essentially) his career is only rated highly because of pienaar, when baines is class in his own right, thats just one example.I know what I wrote, I'm asking you to give me an example of where, in your opinion, I belittled Baines as a player, with my opinion.

I think the fact you think we should have sold him even though we would not have got half a player of baines ability, is laughable too.
Ok.That isn't belittling him as a player though is it? I said he was a good player and formed an excellent partnership. Him and Pienaar complimented each other and amplified each other's games to be almost unrivaled as a left side partnership. That in itself is a compliment.
On selling him, i admit, that come across wrong. I meant to say, I thought we missed a trick at the time. Not so much now. With hindsight, Oviedo got injured and £18m in the current market isn't a great deal when they went on to pay almost double for Lake Shaw.
The fact I thought we Should've sold him at the time was based on the fact that Everton, until recently, have needed to make money to spend money, and as I said earlier, I didn't think there was a lot between him and Oviedo.
Also, as Simon rightly pointed out, not selling him was making a statement, and I agree that that was important.
But honestly, I didn't criticise him as a player. I just said he wasn't a legend, and I could understand why people don't like him.
Ok.
My opinion is people who dont rate baines highly tend to know very little about football.
Thats my opinion mate.
Kever10 doesn't have a clue about football
No because you just dont have a clue mate
Ok.

Ah OK, so what you meant to say was, in your opinion, my personal opinion of whether I don't like/rate Baines as highly as you, suggests I don't have a clue about football, in your opinion.
Just so we're clear, that is opinion, not fact.
The fact is baines is and always had been, during his time at Everton a top top quality left back. He's consistently been either the best in the league or within the top 3. Considered to be one of Europe's finest full backs during his career here by pros, managers, and coaches.Ah OK, so what you meant to say was, in your opinion, my personal opinion of whether I don't like/rate Baines as highly as you, suggests I don't have a clue about football, in your opinion.

I've come to realize its the same thing with Coleman. If they aren't getting up the field and scoring or assisting every four games, they are terrible defensively. The fact is baines is and always had been, during his time at Everton a top top quality left back. He has been an absolutely incredible signings who has more football intelligence than any left back in the league currently. Despite getting older he's still one of our best players who we will majorly struggle to replace.
The myth that he couldn't defend is laughable. Cristiano Ronaldo struggled to get the better of him, so have many of the "top" wingers / forwards.
That's fact.
He's a defender who cant defend. The modern day wing back. Even by his own admission he knows it's been a weakness. The fact is baines is and always had been, during his time at Everton a top top quality left back. Ok son of davek. He has been a really good player for us.
He has been a key member of our team for best part of a decade.
He was part of the best left sided partnership I've seen for Everton.
He is probably the best, and most consistent Left back we've had while I've had my season ticket.
I have said all of this at various stages through my various posts.
Point is though, I still think his reputation as a Left back is enhanced by his partnership with Pienaar, and his former set piece ability, and in my opinion, he is overrated because of it.
That is not me saying he is crap, overrated does not mean crap, just overrated, and that is just the way I see it.
As well as being part of the good sides, where he gets all the credit, he has also been part of the sides that have been awful defensively. And while every other player to a man has took criticism for those performances at some point or another, Baines has managed to avoid the lot. It's almost as though he is untouchable to critics because he was sort of an Everton fan when he was a teenager, because he didn't like Martinez, and because he plays guitar.
Other players like Osman, Hibbert, Jagielka and Barkley (to name a few) have had dogs abuse over the years (some of it admittedly from me), and yet Baines consistently escapes it for his poor performances, and I just think it's unfair.
Over the years, he has scored some cracking goals, played some fantastic stuff, especially his link up Pienaar, and has been part of some great wins, Wembley semi, etc. I also fondly remember him standing up to Arteta over Barkley.
But I was disappointed in what I saw last year over the whole Martinez affair, and despite some people on here taking great pleasure over it, it was snidey and unbecoming, and no different to what has gone on at Leicester. You can't look at the 2 situations differently just because you agree with the end result of one of them. It's either wrong or it's not, and I believe it was wrong.
All of that together, I just cannot see any real justification for him being considered a legend, certainly over any other members of the same teams who equally have won no honours.
