Since the beginning of last season, Baines has played more key passes (70) than any other defender in the Premier League, this coming despite failing to turn out for Everton this term. Approaching 31 years of age, this is likely to be his last chance to turn out for the national team at a major international tournament. While that may play into Hodgson’s thoughts, Baines’ poor showing at last summer’s World Cup will hardly have helped his cause.
Granted, no England player covered themselves in glory in Brazil, but the left-back’s underwhelming displays by the standards expected of him certainly left a lot to be desired, especially with Baines taking Ashley Cole’s spot in the starting XI. Given his tournament experience, however, the Everton star is among the favourites for a place in the 23 at left-back, though who joins him - if fit - is a predicament.

Baines was only poor because Rooney decided not to cover him because Hodgson for some reason had parked him out on the left
.....I suspect Galloway will make way when Baines is fit but I don't think I'd swap him for any of the other players in consideration for the national team.

Good news. Galloway has done a great job but a fit and in form Baines is still the best lb in the league.

I think he will, but if he stuck with Galloway i would be happy. Lad has done well and dosen't deserve to be left out, but i think Roberto will do what he did with Joel and Howard and one player will make way for the more experienced player.
Pretty much. I have stopped anticipating players' returns and assume they've done a Kone until they step out on the field again. Helps me cope.
....to be fair, Baines offers something significant with the football at his feet. I'm a huge fan of Galloway but Baines is a very special little footballer. At one time we really struggled when he didn't play, it's great that we have a more than adequate back-up.
Simply best left back in the league.
