Leighton Baines

Doesn't surprise me what he said. Everything just seems more disciplined under koeman. Don't know if the team has a better spirit nowadays under koeman, but it's certainly more organised.

Whoa whoa.

The stories I heard from S'ton this summer were that he put a lot of noses out of shape in his time there.

Baines is intent on getting a sly fdg at Martinez. I wouldn't place any great store in what he's saying. Him and Jagileka are just made up they've retained their positions under him.

Koeman is a prickly character and I expect a lot of ructions at Everton with him as boss.

He might have put as you said 'a lot of noses out of shape' at Southampton, but ultimately he produced a disciplined, organised and winning team (top 6 for Southampton represents a winning team). Players will adhere to his methods if they want to be successful, if they don't, they won't be at the club. That is no different to any new manager taking over at any club, some players will adapt to a new regime and flourish, others won't. I still have every confidence in koeman getting more out of the players at his disposal than Martinez.

Doesn't stay at clubs too long. I doubt he's looking to build friendships. That's my point.

My hope is that he takes no prisoners with the old guard who had no dignity in collapsing the last quarter of last season. That was as unforgivable an act of treason as I've seen at Everton in my lifetime. It was Chelse-esque. I'll never forgive it and I want the perpetrators out of an Everton shirt and out of the club asap.

I agree that the players needed to take some responsibility for their performances since the Chelsea cup tie. But also I think they just lost confidence in Martinez and his methods. The board gave Martinez time to turn things around (some would say too much time) and a parting of the ways was inevitable. Being a popular manager (Martinez) amongst players doesn't always translate into a successful manager.

Oh Dave.

The team had no chance last year with that clown in charge. He doesn't even believe in preseason fitness work. He has the tactical nouse of Tim Sherwood after 12 pints.

But anyway no need to slate baines. At least give him a chance to regain his former standards.

Just cliches that mate.

I think Baines let the cat out of the bag with this interview. He and a few others wanted a Moyes MkII - someone who would crack the whip and treat them like hired help.

Martinez attempted to treat them and respect them as players who could transform their own games for the better by actually playing to feet. First season here he pulled that off and we saw, incredibly, Moyes players playing decent football. The results were excellent. But not all were on baord with the man himself.

I think it;s fair to say that RM didn't have the strong character to batter those players into shape - and they're such a load of jelly fish that they couldn't even stand up to the jeers of the Goodison crowd and preferred to stand by while their manager got it in the neck for their lack of resolve.

That just about nails the situation for me

I see Baines and Jagileka as the senior pros who stood by and watched that happen, and I'll never forvive them for it. I want them out of Everton. They're spineless and let's face it they're not the quality we require now.

Nah.

Do you seriously think fergie got all his success from telling his teams to just sort it out amongst themselves?
