Funny you should say that but I'd like to see Garbutt given a go at LB.
At one stage, Oviedo was keeping Baines out of the side - but the leg break finished him, was never the same after that injury.

Mate having two washed up CB a new young RB and garbutt in the back 4 along with a young keeper? That would be a terrible idea
Garbutt playing well in the under 23s at left back, but our last manager never included him in the playing squad numbers so he is ineligible to play till Jan 2018

Garbutt, another player whose ability has grown in his absence. He's been crap for a few seasons but a couple of decent games in U23s and he's a world beater. He was never that good to begin with, just promising . Good going forward but dodgy defending , bit like Martina really.

Actually failing to replace Baines over the close-season was as bad as failing to replace Lukaku.
Think about the first goal: LCFC are counter-attackers. They are mediocre in midfield but have two top, fast players. EFC are slow coaches. So, Baines goes over to the right side, both centre-backs move up. Baines craps it and the counter is on. Three chances to take Grey out illegally are missed and they score. Baines arrives by donkey five minutes later.

And is in no mans land doing nothing, not attempting to mark, stop the cross coming in or go to the crosser when the cross comes in. A player who has retained his place on reputation for last 2 years. Having nobody to challenge him for his position is shocking and his performances have suffered as a result.
How he is allowed to take corners and get away with not getting out fast enough and turning his back on crosses is also shocking.
This is not to take away from having been an excellent full back for years esp linking with peanuts but this lad along with jags and williams is done.

Certainly come January give Garbutt a bit of game time and run Baines down to leave in Summer.

Watched him in the u21s against Mansfield and he was bang average. Not ready for the 1st team by a mile.
