Allardyce said recently when asked about the transfer window:

"You'd take Baines and Coleman all day long. Kenny is an outstanding talent but we need to be careful with him. Martina is a decent back up".

Perhaps not verbatim but that was the gist.

Baines will be straight back in.

We so need a quality player in at left back. Baines has been superb but he can't go on for ever. Not to mention injuries and suspensions requiring cover.

Martina has been playing well, as much as we all love Baines for his service I also think Martina is now ahead, dont hold his Koeman form against him

Baines has been such a loyal mainstay of this team, theres no way you bench him for Martina. Martina at his best is a little above Baines when hes not at his best, and its not worth doing. Bring in a top LB and its worth benching one of your most loyal players. But not Martina. Lets be real.

Martina has done ok, but let's be honest the manager has literally nobody who can play left back aside from Martina at the moment.

I think he’s just doing what any good manager would do, given a player praise. Especially a player who’s come in for so much stick & is out of position.
I’d be absolutely amazed if LB doesn’t replace Cuco as soon as he’s fit!


He is past his best though & I’d expect a 1st choice LB to be signed in Jan.

You haven't noticed we've been lumbered with Cuco at left back during one of our most difficult periods in years? Just coincidence though, because Baines is boss, he likes Arctic Monkeys and stuff.

If Allardyce can get a tune out of him defensively like he has with Williams then great. His not a bad defender he's just better going forward, now that side of his game is not as strong as it was he needs someone to improve the other aspects of his game like stopping crosses!!
