Ossie can't play CM. He's too lightweight and useless defensively.

He's proven to be very good in a more advanced midfield role, but with Ross at the moment Ossie can't be first choice there. Without injuries he should be backup now, and that's it.

I think if we could add a back up to the Gibson/Felli CM pairing (possibly a Barry type player) and have Osman backing up Barkley for the AM position we'd have great options.

He was quality last season - I fail to see how he has dramatically declined in pre season. He's only 32 and started first team football relatively late, he's far from past it.

Watch this space come November/December/January.

He was appalling last season, apart from perhaps a combined 60 minutes across the season.

He'd not start for any other top 10 team, so why is he starting for us ffs?
 
I think who ever is in form should be starting, hopefully Martinez won't just use team sheet with the name Osman already pre-printed that Moyes left on the finch farm desk top. I think Osman will still be a useful player but hopefully now more of an option when needed, unless he has incriminating photos of Martinez as well, maybe it was a video tape of Moyes and Martinez, with Bill and Salex joining them.

"Purple patch" player, regardless of position, always has been.

We'll get a couple of blinding months out of him season, don't know when but it certainly isn't now.

I agree with this. I didn't post what i did because I enjoy being critical of our players. People defending Osman either are sentimental or don't analyse our games.

He is a liability when he plays in that deeper role and offers nothing defensively.
 
If we had a board of directors that could be bothered to stick something into the transfer kitty then we would have less of the sledging of the player and each other.
 
If this is the season Barkley emerges then he'll become more of a squad player. But IMO that reflects some great depth in the squad.
